  1. 1. Hydrophobic surfaces: Effect of surface structure on wetting and interaction forces

    Författare :Petra M Hansson; Per M. Claesson; Agne Swerin; Adam C Simonsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; hydrophobic surface; superhydrophobic surface; atomic force microscopy; surface forces; capillary forces; cavitaion; surface roughness; friction; wetting; confocal Raman; contact angles; surface preparation; Langmuir-Blodgett;

    Sammanfattning : The use of hydrophobic surfaces is important for many processes both in nature and industry. Interactions between hydrophobic species play a key role in industrial applications such as water-cleaning procedures and pitch control during papermaking but they also give information on how to design surfaces like hydrophobic mineral pigments. 2. 2. Unsaturated Fatty Acids in Alkane Solution : Adsorption and Tribological Properties

    Författare :Sarah M. Lundgren; Per M. Claesson; Hugh Spikes; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Fatty acids and blends of fatty acids are used as friction modifiers and anti-wear additives in diesel fuels. A large part of some fatty acid blends are unsaturated fatty acids. Even though fatty acids have been thoroughly investigated, the adsorption and tribological behaviour of unsaturated fatty acids are no fully understood. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Corrosion protection and nanomechanical properties of waterborne acrylate-based coating with and without nanocellulose on carbon steel

    Författare :Yunjuan He; Per M. Claesson; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Hydroxyacrylate-melamine copolymer; cellulose nanocrystals CNC ; cellulose nanofibrils CNF ; Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS ; atomic force microscopy AFM ; corrosion protection performance; water uptake; nanomechanical and nano-wear properties; coating; nanocomposite.; Hydroxyakrylat-melamin-sampolymer; cellulosananokristaller CNC ; cellulosananofibriller CNF ; Elektrokemisk impedansspektroskopi EIS ; atomkraftsmikroskopi AFM ; korrosionsskyddsprestanda; vattenupptag; nanomekaniska egenskaper och nano-slitage; coating; nanokomposit.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Corrosion protection is commonly achieved by applying a thin polymer coating on metal surfaces. In this doctoral thesis, a waterborne hydroxyacrylate-melamine copolymer coating was used for this purpose. The first step was to find the optimal curing conditions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Adsorption behaviour of bottle-brush and block copolymers at solid-liquid interfaces

    Författare :Geoffrey Olanya; Per M. Claesson; Orlando Rojas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Adsorption; Lubrication; Layer viscoelasticity; Protein repellency; Polymer architecture; Silica; Bottle-brush polymers; Poly ethylene oxide ; PEO; Block copolymer; Poly N-isopropylacrylamide ; QCM-D; AFM; Reflectometry; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis was spurred on by needs of current scientific and technological developments in the area of surface modification by use of adsorbed polymer layers. The importance of surface properties of polymer layers can be imparted in a broad spectrum of interfacial-related applications like lubrication, colloidal stability, detergency, and protein resistant surfaces, to just mention a few.
