2. The Edge of Perception : The Psychology of the Seen and the Unseen in the Works of William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the psychological dimensions of sense perception in the works of two key poets in the British Romantic tradition - William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge - using a combination of traditional close reading and a newer psychobiographical approach. The thesis proposes that Wordsworth's and Coleridge's works can be seen as staging a dialogue between two mutually incompatible habits of sense perception, with Coleridge experiencing perception as metaphysically divisive, and Wordsworth experiencing it as metaphysically unifying (once the mind learns to correctly process sensory gaps). Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the functions of prevalent threshold-like spaces such as windows, stairs, doors or balconies in theatre plays from the height of the Romantic era in France (1828-1835). The study coins the concept of « para-espaces » (para-spaces) and elucidates the way they mediate between different divisions of the spatiotemporal structure of a play. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The starting point of this study concerns the problems connected to articulation and phrasin in early nineteenth-century organi music. It is generally accepted tha legato was the basic articulation of the romantic period, and the aim os on one hand to describe the legato of the early nineteenth centuries, and on the other hand, to determine what features in the music could guide different types of articulation in a score with no articulation signs.
