1. Anatomical, neurochemical and behavioural consequences of immunotoxin lesions of the basal forebrain cholinergic system
Sammanfattning : The cholinergic hypothesis of geriatric memory dysfunction suggests that the learning and memory deficits representing the cardinal symptoms of dementia in the aged and in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease may be attributable to a decline in the function of the cholinergic projection systems of the basal forebrain. Although many studies have addressed the issue of a causal relationship between cholinergic hypofunction and cognitive disturbance, analyses of the functional role of the basal forebrain cholinergic neuronal systems in the brain have so far been hampered by the lack of an efficient and specific cholinergic neurotoxin. 3. On transplantation of fetal ventral mesencephalon with focus on dopaminergic nerve fiber formation
Sammanfattning : Poor cell survival and striatal reinnervation are two of the postulated limiting factors of fetal ventral mesencephalic (VM) grafting in Parkinson's disease. It has, however, been reported that an increased survival of VM dopaminergic neurons does not correlate with an enhanced target innervation. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve is accompanied by a poor functional recovery of the target organ, the larynx. For the patient this means impairments of vocal fold mobility and various kinds of voice disorders. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) is a common inherited disorder of the peripheral nervous system characterised by distal weakness and muscular atrophy, sensory disturbance of the distal limbs, diminished or absent deep tendon reflexes and often pes cavus. CMT is divided into two major groups based on clinical and electrophysiological findings. LÄS MER
