  1. 1. Working with community : exploring community empowerment to support non-communicable disease prevention in a middle-incom country

    Författare :Fatwa Sari Tetra Dewi; Lars Weinehall; Hans Stenlund; Ann Öhman; Charli Eriksson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NCD; cardiovascular disease; community intervention; prevention; community empowerment; middle-incom countries; folkhälsa; Public health;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Non communicable diseases (NCD) are recognized as a major burden of human health globally, especially in low and middle-income countries including Indonesia. This thesis addresses a community intervention program utilizing a community empowerment approach to study whether this is a reasonable strategy to control NCD. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Bio-Nano Interactions : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization of Biomaterial Interfaces

    Författare :Yixiao Cai; Xia Wei; Mikael Karlsson; Martin Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Bioactive surfaces; nanocrystalline diamond; hydroxyapatite; protein secondary structure; protein absorption; auditory neurons; single crystalline rutile; nano morphology; surface functionalisation; in vitro biomineralisation; translucent nano-ceramics; bio-window material; material characterisation.; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Sammanfattning : Current strategies for designing biomaterials involve creating materials and interfaces that interact with biomolecules, cells and tissues.  This thesis aims to investigate several bioactive surfaces, such as nanocrystalline diamond (NCD), hydroxyapatite (HA) and single crystalline titanium dioxide, in terms of material synthesis, surface functionalization and characterization. 3. 3. Inequalities in non-communicable diseases in urban Hanoi, Vietnam : health care utilization, expenditure and responsiveness of commune health stations

    Författare :Vu Duy Kien; Nawi Ng; Lars Weinehall; Malin Eriksson; Alexandra Krettek; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; socioeconomic inequalities; non-communicable diseases; health care utilization; catastrophic health expenditure; impoverishment; health system; commune health stations; Hanoi; Vietnam; Epidemiology; epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among adults in Vietnam. Little is known about the magnitude of socioeconomic inequalities in NCDs and other NCD-related factors in urban areas, in particular among the poor living in slum areas. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Intervertebral disc degeneration in dogs

    Författare :Niklas Bergknut; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Back pain is common in both dogs and humans, and is often associated with intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration. The IVDs are essential structures of the spine and degeneration can ultimately result in diseases such as IVD herniation or spinal instability. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Medication-related problems and psychotropic drug use in vulnerable older populations : a focus on acute hospital admissions and cognitive impairment

    Författare :Jonas Kindstedt; Maria Gustafsson; Hugo Lövheim; Eva-Lotta Glader; Staffan Hägg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; older people; cognitive impairment; medication-related problems; psychotropic drugs; Clinical Pharmacology; klinisk farmakologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ageing process involves several physiological changes that affect both pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics and that, in combination with a heavier disease burden and more extensive use of medicines, put older people at higher risk of medication-related problems and associated clinical outcomes. The older population is often treated as a homogenous group, when in fact there are factors that render certain individuals more vulnerable to adverse drug effects and other types of medication-related problems.
