  1. 21. Transmigration of Toxoplasma gondii across biological barriers

    Författare :Emily C. Ross; Antonio Barragan; Ildiko Rita Dunay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; blood-brain barrier; leukocyte; immune cell; transendothelial migration; cell adhesion molecule; host-pathogen; FAK; integrin; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that can likely infect all warm-blooded vertebrates, with estimates of up to 30% of the global human population being infected. Although infection with T. gondii is usually asymptomatic or mild, in immunocompromised individuals infection can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Matrix metalloproteinases in natural killer cells. Expression of MMPs, IL-2 activation and killer cell interactions with Matrigel® and model tumours

    Författare :Per Albertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protease; matrix metalloproteinase; killer cell; IL-2; Matrigel; B16 melanoma; tumour infiltration; invasion assay; zymography; Western blot; RT-PCR; light microscopy; fluorescence; electron microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: IL-2 activated natural killer (A-NK) cells can recognize malignant cells and exert tumouricidal activities by multiple mechanisms that require close contact with the target cells. Upon adoptive transfer, some A-NK cells accumulate in tumours by migrating from the vascular bed to a position inside the malignant tissue, forming close contacts with target cells. LÄS MER

  3. 23. TGFβ Signal Transduction in Endothelial Cells

    Författare :Gudrun Valdimarsdóttir; Peter ten Dijke; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Christer Betsholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) is a multifunctional cytokine that is involved in many biological effects, such as proliferation, migration, differentiation and cell survival. TGFβ regulates cellular responses by binding to a heteromeric complex of type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Regulation of cell differentiation and invasion by members of the TGFß family

    Författare :Kalliopi Tzavlaki; Aristidis Moustakas; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Laia Caja; Staffan Johansson; Gareth Inman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGFβ; BMP; LKB1; signal transduction; cancer; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling pathways are important in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis, but also have complex roles in the context of cancer. TGFβ promotes epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) a physiological developmental process, often hijacked in different types of cancer, eventually leading to cancer cell invasion and metastasis. Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common high-grade brain tumor diagnosed in patients who are more than 50 years of age. The standard of care treatment is surgery, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The median life expectancy of patients is only between 12 to 15 months after receiving current treatment regimes.
