  1. 1. Transmigration of Toxoplasma gondii across biological barriers

    Författare :Emily C. Ross; Antonio Barragan; Ildiko Rita Dunay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Apicomplexa; blood-brain barrier; leukocyte; immune cell; transendothelial migration; cell adhesion molecule; host-pathogen; FAK; integrin; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that can likely infect all warm-blooded vertebrates, with estimates of up to 30% of the global human population being infected. Although infection with T. gondii is usually asymptomatic or mild, in immunocompromised individuals infection can lead to lethal toxoplasmic encephalitis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The role of cell adhesion molecules in tissue formation and organogenesis

    Författare :Farzad Esni; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell adhesion cadherins N-CAM pancreas development mouse organogenesis;

    Sammanfattning : Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) are cell surface glycoproteins that promote connection between two adjacent cells or between a cell and extra cellular matrix. These interactions are essential for tissue organisation during development and for the maintenance of tissue integrity in adult organisms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cardiac cell identification and isolation

    Författare :Laura Tarnawski; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Identification and isolation of cardiomyocytes from the heart, embryonic stem cells, or induced pluripotent stem cells is a challenging task and will require specific isolation techniques. Less than 30% of the cells within the murine heart are cardiomyocytes and, what is more, there are multiple sub-populations of cardiomyocytes like atrial, ventricular and conduction system cardiomyocytes. Sammanfattning : Tumor growth and progression not only depend on properties of the malignant cells but are strongly influenced by the tumor microenvironment. The tumor stroma consists of various cell types such as inflammatory cells, endothelial cells and fibroblasts, which can either inhibit or promote tumor growth. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The mechanism of integrin inactivation and cell signalling induced by c-erbB2, an oncogenic growth factor receptor

    Författare :Shahram Hedjazifar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; c-erbB2; integrin á2â1; cell-matrix; integrin conformation; PKB; ERK; Rho; ILK; Nck-2;

    Sammanfattning : Overexpression of the oncogenic growth factor receptor, c-erbB2, is linked with poor prognosis in breast carcinomas and is used as a target for therapeutic strategies. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the tumorigenic action of an elevated c-erbB2 level, leading to homodimerization and activation, we have used an inducible system where a hybrid receptor consisting of the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains of c-erbB2 fused to the extracellular domain of the trkA NGF receptor has been stably transfected into an immortalized mammary epithelial cell line.
