11. Constraint Induced Movement Therapy : influence of restraint and type of training on performance and on brain plasticity
Sammanfattning : Partial paralysis of the hand is one of the main impairments after stroke. Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIT) is a new treatment technique that appears to improve upper extremity function after stroke. LÄS MER
12. Laser Doppler Perfusion Monitoring and Imaging especially as regards testing for sympathetic nerve function
Sammanfattning : The operating principle of all laser Doppler methods is based on the fact that incident photons shift in wavelength when interacting with moving blood cells passing through the microvascular network. After photodetection and further signal processing, the recorded parameter can be considered an arbitrary measure of tissue blood flow, and this is referred to as ?perfusion?. LÄS MER
13. Fractionated irradiation of salivary glands : loss and protection of function
Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy of malignancies in the head and neck often involves the major and minor salivary glands in the radiation field. Adverse effects, such as dry mouth symptoms, are common after such therapy. LÄS MER
14. Congenital upper limb anomalies : studies of epidemiology and hand function
Sammanfattning : Objectives: This thesis has three interrelated aims. (1) To describe the epidemiology of congenital upper limb anomalies (CULA) in Stockholm County, Sweden, in order to augment the few existing population studies of CULA (paper I); (2) To measure the incidence of different categories of CULA while using and evaluating a recently proposed new classification scheme (Oberg, Manske and Tonkin (OMT) Classification) based on more current knowledge of limb development than the previously used International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) Classification is based on (paper II); and (3) To investigate the relationship between measurements of body function and structure with both activity and participation in children and adults with radial longitudinal deficiency (RLD) by using the International Classification of Functioning and Health (ICF) framework, in order to shed light on what aspects of physical limb function and structure actually affect individuals’ daily life activity (papers III and IV). 15. Spatial accuracy and temporal efficiency in children's tracing with a pencil
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present dissertation was to develop a method for studying children's tine-motor development. The children were to trace a dotted line with a pencil. LÄS MER
