  1. 6. Oxidative damage and the DNA glycosylase MutYH

    Författare :Kristina Jansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oxidative damage; 8-oxo-7; 8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine; Base excision repair; DNA glycosylase; Mismatch repair; DNA damage checkpoint; 9-1-1 complex; Glutathione-S-transferases; Colon cancer.;

    Sammanfattning : The DNA glycosylase MutYH is highly conserved throughout evolution, and homologs are found in most eukaryotes and prokaryotes examined. MutYH functions as a base excision repair DNA glycosylase that excises adenines misincorporated opposite 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG), one of the most stable products of oxidative DNA damage. 2. 7. Distribution and abundance of genetic variation in the arctic fox

    Författare :Love Dalén; Anders Angerbjörn; Robert K. Wayne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :population genetics; DNA; ecology; population history; gene flow; Alopex lagopus;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates how changes in population size and spatial movements of individuals have shaped the distribution and abundance of neutral genetic variation in the arctic fox. This is done through mitochondrial and microsatellite DNA analyses on samples covering most of the species’ distribution, but with special emphasis on Scandinavia. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Ecology and genetic population structure of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins in East Africa

    Författare :Anna Särnblad Hansson; Per Berggren; Anders Angerbjörn; Göran Spong; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Tursiops aduncus; population size; distribution; social structure; behaviour; conservation status; mitochondrial DNA; microsatellites; Zanzibar; western Indian Ocean; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Many marine mammal populations are threatened by anthropogenic activities. The Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops aduncus) off Zanzibar are subject to high levels of bycatch, negative impact from tourism and were previously hunted. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Repair of DNA double-stranded breaks in human cells

    Författare :Susanne Nyström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; DNA-PK; DNA double-stranded break; DSB; DNA single-stranded break; SSB; DNA damage; ionizing radiation; IR; DNA repair; calicheamicin gamma1; bleomycin; etoposide; topoisomerase II; radiotherapy; radiosensitizer; ATM;

    Sammanfattning : DNA is continuously subjected to degradation. Therefore, our cells need to constantly repair its DNA to prevent mutations and in the long run cancer. In mammalian cells, when DNA is broken right off, a double-stranded break (DSB) is produced, and the ends are ligated by a process called non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ). LÄS MER

  5. 10. Electric DNA arrays for determination of pathogenic Bacillus cereus

    Författare :Yanling Liu; Sven-Olof Enfors; Helena Anderson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacillus cereus; haemolysin; non-haemolytic enterotoxin; cytotoxin K-2; cereulide; toxin-coding genes; bacterial colony; electric DNA chip; ultrasonication; DNA fragmentation; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Silicon-based electric chip arrays were developed for characterization of Bacillus cereus with respect to the capacity to produce toxins involved in food poisoning and foodborne infections. Bacteria of the B. cereus group contain different sets of four toxins encoded by eight genes. LÄS MER
