  1. 16. Cellular Aspects of Lignin Biosynthesis in Xylem Vessels of Zinnia and Arabidopsis

    Författare :Henrik Serk; Edouard Pesquet; Simon Hawkins; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lignin; tracheary elements; xylem wood; post-mortem lignification; non-cell autonomous process; xylem parenchyma; endoreplication; reactive oxygen species; laccases; peroxidases; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lignin is the second most abundant biopolymer on earth and is found in the wood (xylem) of vascular land plants. To transport the hydro-mineral sap, xylem forms specialized conduit cells, called tracheary elements (TEs), which are hollow dead cylinders reinforced with lateral secondary cell walls (SCW). 2. 17. Modelling Approaches to Molecular Systems Biology

    Författare :David Fange; Måns Ehrenberg; Johan Elf; Terence Hwa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stochastic reaction-diffuion kinetics; antibiotic drugs; efflux pumps; amino acid biosynthesis; Min-system; rRNA operon; transcription; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Implementation and analysis of mathematical models can serve as a powerful tool in understanding how intracellular processes in bacteria affect the bacterial phenotype. In this thesis I have implemented and analysed models of a number of different parts of the bacterium E. coli in order to understand these types of connections. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Jack of all trades, master of none : the multifaceted nature of H3K36 methylation

    Författare :Henrik Lindehell; Jan Larsson; Anders Byström; Peter B. Becker; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; H3K36; histone methylation; dosage compensation; chromosome-specific gene regulation; transposable elements; PIWI piRNA biosynthesis; Set2; Ash1; NSD; Histone 3.3; post-translational modifications; histone modifications; epigenetics; proximity ligation assay; Drosophila; Genetics; genetik; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Sammanfattning : Post-translational modifications of histones enable differential transcriptional control of the genome between cell types and developmental stages, and in response to environmental factors. The methylation of Histone 3 Lysine 36 (H3K36) is one the most complex and well-studied histone modifications and is known to be involved in a wide range of molecular processes. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Engineering cytosolic acetyl-CoA metabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Författare :Yiming Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reverse engineering; flavodoxin; genomic DNA sequencing; ferredoxin; histone deacetylase; adaptive evolution; ferredoxin flavodoxin NADP reductase; pyruvate decarboxylase; citrate synthase; hexose transporter; yeast; mitochondria; aerobic growth; metabolic engineering.; acetyl-CoA; central carbon metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : A Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain carrying deletions in all three pyruvate decarboxylase genes (also called Pdc negative yeast) represents a non-ethanol producing platform strain for biochemical production. However, it cannot grow on glucose as the sole carbon source due to the lack of cytosolic acetyl-CoA for lipid biosynthesis. LÄS MER

  5. 20. From quality control to neurodegeneration : regulation of autophagy and the DNA damage response by ubiquitin-modifying enzymes

    Författare :Laura K Herzog Croona; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Protein homeostasis and genome integrity are safeguarded by a variety of cellular quality control pathways. While protein quality is controlled by a delicate balance between protein biosynthesis, folding and degradation, the DNA is subject to tightly regulated surveillance processes that sense, signal and repair DNA lesions.
