  1. 16. Molecular Genetic Analysis in B-cell Lymphomas : A Focus on the p53 Pathway and p16INK4a

    Författare :Norafiza Zainuddin; Gunilla Enblad; Richard Rosenquist; Mattias Berglund; Kirsten Gronbaek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma; chronic lymphocytic leukemia; TP53 mutation; MDM2 SNP309; codon 72 polymorphism; p16INK4a methylation; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Haematology; Hematologi; Tumour biology; Tumörbiologi; Clinical Genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik; Molekylär genetik; Molecular Genetics; Oncology; Onkologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of TP53 mutations has been associated with inferior outcome in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). In DLBCL, the impact of the TP53 codon 72 polymorphism and MDM2 SNP309 has not been clearly elucidated, whereas MDM2 SNP309 was suggested as a poor-prognostic marker in CLL. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Biased Evolution : Causes and Consequences

    Författare :Gerrit Brandis; Diarmaid Hughes; Erik Böttger; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; Codon usage bias; Post-transcriptional regulation; Recombination; Inversion; EF-Tu; Frameshift suppression; Antibiotic resistance; Rifampicin; Ciprofloxacin; Compensatory evolution; Drug efflux; RNA polymerase; DNA gyrase; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : In evolution alternative genetic trajectories can potentially lead to similar phenotypic outcomes. However, certain trajectories are preferred over others. These preferences bias the genomes of living organisms and the underlying processes can be observed in ongoing evolution. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the genomic study of symbionts of two different groups of hymenopterans: bees and ants. Both groups of insects have major ecological impact, and investigating their microbiomes increases our understanding of their health, diversity and evolution. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Genome and Transcriptome Comparisons between Human and Chimpanzee

    Författare :Anna Wetterbom; Ulf Gyllensten; Lucia Cavelier; Tomas Bergström; Evan Eichler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; chimpanzee; genome; transcriptome; comparative studies; exon arrays; next-generation sequencing; premature termination codon; alternative splicing; primate evolution; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics;

    Sammanfattning : The chimpanzee is humankind’s closest living relative and the two species diverged ~6 million years ago. Comparative studies of the human and chimpanzee genomes and transcriptomes are of great interest to understand the molecular mechanisms of speciation and the development of species-specific traits. 5. 20. Accuracy of mRNA Translation in Bacterial Protein Synthesis

    Författare :Jingji Zhang; Måns Ehrenberg; Olke C. Uhlenbeck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein synthesis; genetic code; misreading; error hot spots; kinetics; aminoglycoside; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Reading of messenger RNA (mRNA) by aminoacyl-tRNAs (aa-tRNAs) on the ribosomes in the bacterial cell occurs with high accuracy. It follows from the physical chemistry of enzymatic reactions that there must be a trade-off between rate and accuracy of initial tRNA selection in protein synthesis: when the current accuracy, the A-value, approaches its maximal possible value, the d-value, the kinetic efficiency of the reaction approaches zero.
