41. Biogas from agricultural waste : Turning unavailable residues into accessible resources
Sammanfattning : Moving from a fossil dependent to a fossil free economy requires increased energy production from renewable resources. This thesis discusses the utilization of agricultural waste streams, such as straw and manure, for biogas production. LÄS MER
42. Metabolic Engineering of Disaccharide Catabolism for Polysaccharide Formation in Lactococcus lactis and Streptococcus thermophilus
Sammanfattning : Exopolysaccharides (EPSs) produced by the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) Lactococcus lactis and Streptococcus thermophilus are important for the rheological behaviour and texture of a variety of fermented food products. Furthermore, EPSs from food-grade LAB have potential as food additives and functional food ingredients with both health and economic benefits. LÄS MER
43. Neuropeptides and GABA in control of insulin producing cells in Drosophila
Sammanfattning : Insulin plays an important role in metabolic regulation as well as in growth, fecundity and stress resistance. In order to understand more about the regulation of insulin-like peptide (DILP) production and release we investigate the impact of neuropeptide (DTK) signaling and classical neurotransmitter (GABA) signaling onto the insulin producing cells of the Drosophila brain. 44. Innovative processing of brown seaweed for value-added products
Sammanfattning : The increasing depletion of fossil fuels, rising greenhouse gas emissions, and a growing global population have increased the need for sustainable food and energy sources. Traditional industrial biotechnology, which relies on plant-based feedstocks, competes with food production for arable land. LÄS MER
45. Vitamin D status in psoriasis patients treated with UVB therapy
Sammanfattning : Vitamin D status in psoriasis patients treated with UVB therapy Amra Osmancevic Department of Dermatology and Venereology, Institute of Clinical Sciences at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Göteborg, Sweden Abstract The thesis deals with the effect of ultraviolet B (UVB) 280-320 nm on vitamin D production in psoriasis patients during treatment with phototherapy. Background: Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory disease affecting the skin and potentially the joints. LÄS MER
