  1. 1. Steel Making Hunter-Gatherers in Ancient Arctic Europe

    Författare :Carina Bennerhag; Kristina Söderholm; Eva Hjärthner-Holdar; Sara Hagström Yamamoto; Roine Wiklund; Marianne Skandfer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Iron Metallurgy; Archaeometallurgy; Ancient Steel; Arctic Europe; Hunter-Gatherers; Landscape; Climate; Taskscape; Historia; History;

    Sammanfattning : Based on findings made by Norrbotten County Museum around 2010 in the vicinity of Sangis in Arctic Sweden of advanced iron and steel production in a hunter-gatherer setting dated to the pre-Roman Iron Age (c. 200-50 BC), the aim of the present thesis is twofold. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Chemical composition of Arctic aerosols and their link to clouds

    Författare :Yvette Gramlich; Claudia Mohr; Paul Zieger; Ilona Riipinen; Ulrich Pöschl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; aerosols; cloud residuals; mass spectrometry; biomass burning; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic is a place particularly vulnerable to climate change, warming at an accelerated rate compared to the rest of the Earth. In this remote environment, the atmosphere, the ocean, the ice, and the land are all interlinked and are shaping a very complex system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Long-term changes of mercury, lead and persistent organic pollutants in arctic environments

    Författare :Carola Lindeberg; Ingemar Renberg; Mats Tysklind; Ove Emteryd; Edvard Karlsson; Per Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediment; time trends; chlordane; hexachlorobenzene; mercury; lead; soil; climate changes; Arctic; Greenland; Sweden; Swedish mountains; PCB; PBDE; pesticides; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic represents a huge area with poor infrastructure contributing to limited possibilities to establish monitoring and research programs. From the investigations that have been performed we know that the arctic environment is affected by anthropogenic emissions from lower latitudes, but knowledge about underlying transport processes, the arctic pollution extent and the rates of changes are limited. 4. 4. Investigating the impacts of Late Pleistocene climate change on Arctic mammals using palaeogenomics

    Författare :Edana Lord; Love Dalén; Mirte Bosse; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeogenomics; Arctic; Late Pleistocene; past climate; collared lemming; woolly rhinoceros; Norwegian lemming; muskox; demography; population structure; speciation; adaptation; genome erosion; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The climatic fluctuations of the Late Pleistocene likely had a large impact on the evolutionary history of Arctic species. Palaeogenomics is a useful tool to shed light on how past populations responded to these climatic shifts and the associated ice sheet dynamics and sea level change. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Temporal and spatial trends of organohalogens in guillemot (Uria aalge) from North Western Europe

    Författare :Hrönn Jörundsdóttir; Åke Bergman; Derek Muir; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; environmental; monitoring; pollution; time trends; spatial trends; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic and sub-Arctic region of the North Atlantic is a remote area, also in relations to environmental contaminants, such as POPs, BFRs and last but not least, PFCs. Both the BFRs and PFCs are considered emerging pollutants of significant environmental concern. LÄS MER
