  1. 1. Investigating the impacts of Late Pleistocene climate change on Arctic mammals using palaeogenomics

    Författare :Edana Lord; Love Dalén; Mirte Bosse; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeogenomics; Arctic; Late Pleistocene; past climate; collared lemming; woolly rhinoceros; Norwegian lemming; muskox; demography; population structure; speciation; adaptation; genome erosion; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The climatic fluctuations of the Late Pleistocene likely had a large impact on the evolutionary history of Arctic species. Palaeogenomics is a useful tool to shed light on how past populations responded to these climatic shifts and the associated ice sheet dynamics and sea level change. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Spatial and temporal population dynamics in the mountain tundra – mesopredator and prey

    Författare :Rasmus Erlandsson; Anders Angerbjörn; Dennis Murray; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population dynamics; cyclic; mountain tundra; arctic fox; Norwegian lemming; small rodents; mesopredator; predation; survival; reproduction; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : It is well known that competition, predation and fluctuating food resources can have strong effect on individual fitness and population dynamics. The complexity of natural systems can make it complicate to disentangle those processes, but environments with relatively simple food webs, and strong cyclic population dynamics offer contrasting conditions resembling experimental treatments. 3. 3. Animal movement on short and long time scales and the effect on genetic diversity in cold-adapted species

    Författare :Vendela Kempe Lagerholm; Love Dalén; Anders Angerbjörn; Bensch Staffan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The genetic diversity in modern species is strongly affected by contemporary gene flow between populations, which in turn is governed by individual dispersal capacities and barriers in the landscape. However, current patterns of variation have also been shaped by movement over longer time-scales, such as the successive shifts in species distributions that have occurred during past climate changes. 4. 4. Predator-prey interactions of raptors in an arctic environment

    Författare :Jesper Nyström; Anders Angerbjörn; A. Rolf Ims; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology of raptors; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the predator-prey interactions of three raptor species in a Swedish arctic community: the gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus), the rough-legged buzzard (Buteo lagopus) and the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos). The gyrfalcon behaved like a highly specialised ptarmigan (Lagopus spp.) predator. LÄS MER
