  1. 1. Regional studies of the optical, chemical and microphysical properties of atmospheric aerosols : Radiative impacts and cloud formation

    Författare :Admir Créso Targino; Douglas Nilsson; Radovan Krejci; Richard Leaitch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric aerosols; particles; optical properties; cloud; ice crystals; chemical composition; Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences; Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric particles are ubiquitous in the Earth’s atmosphere and have potential to influence atmospheric chemistry, visibility, global climate and human health, particularly downwind from major pollution sources. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate questions pertaining to the microphysical, chemical and optical properties of aerosol particles by using in situ data collected during four experiments carried out in different regions of the Northern Hemisphere. 2. 2. Hygroscopic Growth of Atmospheric Aerosol Particles and Its Relation to Nucleation Scavenging in Clouds

    Författare :Birgitta Svenningsson; Kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol formation; atmospheric aerosols; hygroscopic growth; nucleation scavenging; cloud; water activity; external mixing; tandem differential mobility analyser; Kärnfysik; cloud condensation nuclei spectra; Nuclear physics; TDMA; Fysicumarkivet A:1997:Svenningsson; inorganic salts;

    Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles in the atmosphere are important in several aspects. Some major aerosol constituents that are deposited in ecosystems are acidic or fertilisers and some minor or trace constituents are toxic. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Chemical composition of Arctic aerosols and their link to clouds

    Författare :Yvette Gramlich; Claudia Mohr; Paul Zieger; Ilona Riipinen; Ulrich Pöschl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; aerosols; cloud residuals; mass spectrometry; biomass burning; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The Arctic is a place particularly vulnerable to climate change, warming at an accelerated rate compared to the rest of the Earth. In this remote environment, the atmosphere, the ocean, the ice, and the land are all interlinked and are shaping a very complex system. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Chemical perspectives on aerosol-cloud interactions in the High Arctic

    Författare :Karolina Siegel; Claudia Mohr; Annica M. L. Ekman; Ilona Riipinen; Ryan Sullivan; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aerosol chemical composition; DMS oxidation; FIGAERO-CIMS; κ-Köhler theory; High Arctic; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi;

    Sammanfattning : Atmospheric aerosol particles have important yet highly uncertain impacts on the Earth’s climate, with the largest uncertainties residing in the interactions between aerosols and clouds. The extent to which aerosols act as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) depends on the chemical composition and size of the particles. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Bioaerosols and their importance for low-level Arctic clouds

    Författare :Gabriel Pereira Freitas; Paul Zieger; Radovan Krejci; Kevin J. Noone; Claudia Mohr; Martin Gallagher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bioaerosols; Aerosols; Clouds; Arctic; Cloud Condensation Nuclei; Ice Nucleating Particles; Sea Spray Aerosol; Environmental Sciences; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Bioaerosols are microorganisms or functional parts of them or other biological matter suspended in air. Examples are bacteria, viruses, pollen, spores, or smaller plant debris. In the atmosphere, bioaerosols can play various functional roles, such as facilitating the spread of genetic material. LÄS MER
