  1. 16. Identification and functional characterization of Epstein-Barr virus-encoded deconjugases

    Författare :Sebastian Hildebrand; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The post-translational conjugation or deconjugation of proteins by ubiquitin (Ub) or ubiquitin-like molecules (UbLs: e.g. SUMO, NEDD8, ISG15) has emerged as a major regulatory mechanism of various cellular activities. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Molecular diagnosis of drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum and virulence factors in Entamoeba histolytica

    Författare :Sherwan Zindrou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Plasmodium falciparum; dhfr gene; pyrimethamine; cycloguanil; mutations; Polymerase chain reaction; Entamoeba histolytica; hemolysins; hemolysis; virulence factors.;

    Sammanfattning : Four species of the protozoan parasite genus Plasmodium are known to infect man. Plasmodium falciparum, the most virulent species is increasingly associated with resistance to antimalarial drugs. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Towards good-enough Requirements Engineering : a theoretical Foundation for Requirements Quality

    Författare :Julian Frattini; Daniel Mendez; Michael Unterkalmsteiner; Elmar Juergens; Blekinge Tekniska Högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Requirements Engineering; Requirements Quality; Theory Development; Programvaruteknik; Software Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Context: Requirements Engineering (RE) research has established a common agreement on the impact that the quality of requirements has on subsequent software development activities and artifacts. Furthermore, empirical investigations suppose that RE quality defects tend to scale in cost for remediation when left unattended. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Apoptosis induced by a human milk protein complex. Cellular and structural studies in tumour cells and bacteria

    Författare :Anders Håkansson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; nuclear uptake; caspases; mitochondria; S. pneumoniae; alpha-lactalbumin; milk; breast-feeding; Apoptosis; tumour cells; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human milk contains a vast array of bioactive molecules, with nutritional and protective functions. This thesis describes the effects of a human milk protein complex, MAL, on tumour cells and bacteria. During our studies on the anti-adhesive properties of human milk we observed that a milk fraction killed tumour cells. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Untangling the contribution of untranslated regions to mRNA translation in health and disease

    Författare :Johannes Ristau; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Protein homeostasis is essential for living organisms and a consequence of steps of the gene expression pathway such as transcription, mRNA translation as well as the degradation of mRNA and proteins. These major cellular events demand tight control, high maintenance, and require a large proportion of cellular resources. LÄS MER
