    Sammanfattning : The development of molecular tools for detection and typing of unicellular intestinal parasites has revealed genetic diversities in species that were previously considered as distinct entities. Of great importance is the genetic distinction found between the pathogenic Entamoeba histolytica and the non-pathogenic Entamoeba dispar, two morphologically indistinguishable species. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia intestinalis are two of the most important and most widespread diarrhea-related parasitic protozoa in the world. Approximately 1200 1500 cases of Giardia and 200 400 cases of Entamoeba are reported each year in Sweden, whereas the corresponding numbers are much higher in developing countries like Nicaragua.     Sammanfattning : About ten yearly cases of liver abscess are presented in University Hospital, León, Nicaragua. Based on serology most of them have been shown to be amoebiasis cases. This raised the question of Entameoba histolytica prevalence in the population. Based on microscopy of stool specimens and serology, about 20% prevalence was found. LÄS MER
