1. Methods for Reliable Image Registration : Algorithms, Distance Measures, and Representations
Sammanfattning : Much biomedical and medical research relies on the collection of ever-larger amounts of image data (both 2D images and 3D volumes, as well as time-series) and increasingly from multiple sources. Image registration, the process of finding correspondences between images based on the affinity of features of interest, is often required as a vital step towards the final analysis, which may consist of a comparison of images, measurement of movement, or fusion of complementary information. 2. Dying to make a fresh start : mortality and health transition in a new South Africa
Sammanfattning : Rationale: Vital registration is lacking in developing settings where health and development problems are most pressing. Policy-makers confront an “information paradox”: the critical need for information on which to base priorities and monitor progress, and the profound shortage of such information. LÄS MER
3. Counting deaths, accounting for lives : Novel applications of standardised verbal autopsy methods for augmented health systems
Sammanfattning : Half of the world’s deaths and their causes are never recorded by virtue of the under-resourced civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems which limits capacity of health systems to respond to population needs. Verbal autopsy (VA) has emerged as a pragmatic approach for determining causes of death using standard interviews including signs, symptoms and circumstances of death, conducted with the bereaved family. 4. Hand-held Augmented Reality for Facility Maintenance
Sammanfattning : Buildings and public infrastructures are crucial to our societies in that they provide habitations, workplaces, commodities and services indispensible to our daily life. As vital parts of facility management, operations and maintenance (O&M) ensure a facility to continuously function as intended, which take up the longest time in a facility’s life cycle and demand great expense. 5. Mortality in rural Vietnam : validity of routine reporting and experiences from a surveillance system
Sammanfattning : Background: Findings from many low-income countries, Vietnam included, show that mortality estimates based on death data collected in routine systems have low validity. Aims: The overall aim of this thesis is to examine and discuss the validity of mortality estimates based on data collected in different systems in a rural setting in Northern Vietnam and to identify factors that can influence the reporting and registration of deaths, all in order to make recommendations for improvement of death registration.
