26. Nutrition in acute pancreatitis - influence on gut barrier and inflammatory response
Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is associated with metabolic changes, acute inflammatory response and increased gut permeability. In AP, traditional treatment has been initial fasting on purpose to avoid activation of proteolytic enzymes and pancreatic enzyme secretion. LÄS MER
27. Intestinal Bypass and Total Parenteral Nutrition: Changes in Gut Function and Morphology
Sammanfattning : Abolition of enteral nutrition is sometimes required in severe illness. The primary aim of the present work has been to elucidate possible changes in intestinal morphology and motor function in absence of enteral nutrition. Total absence of enteral nutrition in an isolated intestinal segment was created by bypassing the distal ileum in a rat model. LÄS MER
28. Amputation for vascular disease. Prognostic factors for healing, long-term outcome and costs
Sammanfattning : General characteristics and outcome was evaluated in 177 consecutive patients who underwent a major amputation in a defined population. Smoking and diabetes lowered the mean amputation age. Healing failure at six months was seen in 24% of transtibial and in 11% of transfemoral amputees. LÄS MER
29. Meniscal Tear - A Feature of Osteoarthritis
Sammanfattning : Meniscectomy is recognized as an important risk factor for the development of knee osteoarthritis (OA), a disease that traditionally has been considered as a simple "wear and tear" phenomenon. However, despite numerous reports, little evidence has been presented that a limited meniscal resection, compared with a more extensive resection, reduces the risk of OA by preserving meniscal function. 30. Effects of Total Parenteral Nutrition on the Exocrine and Endocrine Pancreas. An Experimental Study
Sammanfattning : During total parenteral nutrition (TPN) adequate nutrition is provided intravenously and the enteral route is bypassed. The integrity of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, however, is dependent on the passage of food through it. This thesis deals with the effects of TPN on the pancreas and the parotid glands. LÄS MER
