1. Proteomics of the human meniscus in health and osteoarthritis
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common causes of knee pain, and the most common form ofarthritis. It causes pain and disability, and there is currently no cure. Recent research in knee OA highlights therole of the meniscus in OA pathology. LÄS MER
2. Osteoarthritis. Epidemiologic and genetic aspects
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to (I) assess the association between body mass index (BMI) and total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) due to osteoarthritis (OA), (II) assess the association between the mechanical load of work and THR and TKR due to OA, (III) evaluate the natural history of radiographic hip OA with regards to THR and hip fracture, (IV) to determine the prevalence of radiographic OA in patients with hip fracture, and (V) to examine and compare the inheritance patterns of THR for OA and hip fracture. OA was previously regarded as a consequence of the wear and tear the joint is subjected to during one’s lifetime. LÄS MER
3. Aggrecan fragments as biomarkers in osteoarthritis
Sammanfattning : Background: In osteoarthritis (OA) the balance of cartilage matrix synthesis and degradation is disturbed, resulting in a gradual destruction of the articular cartilage. Matrix components released into body fluids by proteolytic cleavage can be used as biomarkers of ongoing processes. LÄS MER
4. Meniscal Tear - A Feature of Osteoarthritis
Sammanfattning : Meniscectomy is recognized as an important risk factor for the development of knee osteoarthritis (OA), a disease that traditionally has been considered as a simple "wear and tear" phenomenon. However, despite numerous reports, little evidence has been presented that a limited meniscal resection, compared with a more extensive resection, reduces the risk of OA by preserving meniscal function. 5. Engineering Nanotherapeutic Strategies for Osteoarthritis Treatment
Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA), the most prevalent joint disorder, is characterized by the degeneration of cartilage tissue leading to pain, stiffness, and impaired mobility. Primarily affecting the elderly, OA can also impact athletes, postmenopausal women, and individuals with conditions like diabetes. LÄS MER
