  1. 6. Molecular and functional characterization of the insect hemolymph clot

    Författare :Malin Lindgren; Ulrich Theopold; Andreas Vilcinskas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Innate immunity; hemolymph coagulation; transglutaminase; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : All metazoans possess an epithelial barrier that protects them from their environment and prevents loss off body fluid. Insects, which have an open circulatory system, depend on fast mechanism to seal wounds to avoid excessive loss of body fluids. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Timing Matters : Wounding and entomopathogenic nematode infection kinetics

    Författare :Alexis Dziedziech; Ulrich Theopold; Angela Giangrande; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drosophila melanogaster; Heterorhabditis bacteriophora; Photorhabdus luminescens; entomopathogenic nematodes; worms; high-resolution microscopy; time-lapse; infection; kinetics; sepsis; septic wounding; injury; clotting; glutactin; transglutaminase; prophenoloxidase; cell death; pyroptosis; caspase; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Over time, insects have developed complex strategies to defend themselves against presenting threats. However, in the evolutionary arms race of survival, pathogens have adapted to quickly overcome the immune response mounted by the host. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Hematopoiesis in a Crustacean

    Författare :Xionghui Lin; Irene Söderhäll; Kenneth Söderhäll; Michael J. Williams; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; astakine; cytokine; hematopoiesis; prokineticin; transglutaminase; ATP synthase; innate immunity; apoptosis; Immunology; Immunologi; Biology with specialization in Comparative Physiology; Biologi med inriktning mot jämförande fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hemocytes (blood cells) play an important role in the immune response in invertebrates, and thus the regulation of hemocyte homeostasis (hematopoiesis) is essential for the host survival against pathogens. Astakine 1, a homologue to vertebrate prokineticins, was first identified in the freshwater crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus as a cytokine, and was found to be necessary for new hemocyte synthesis and release in vivo, and also to induce spreading and proliferation of Hematopoietic tissue cells (Hpt cells, precursor of hemocytes) in vitro. 4. 9. Screening Detected Celiac Disease in Children

    Författare :Charlotta Webb; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Celiac disease; screening; prevalence; small-bowel biopsy; enteropathy; transglutaminase; gluten-free diet; adherence;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The prevalence of celiac disease (CD) is estimated to be around 1%, but most CD cases are undiagnosed. Sweden experienced an epidemic of clinically detected celiac disease in children younger than 2 years of age, partly due to changes in infant feeding practices, were the amount of gluten and age at introduction was changed. 5. 10. The Significance of IgG Antibodies against Tissue Transglutaminase in Coeliac Disease

    Författare :Ingrid Dahlbom; Birgitta Heyman; Tony Hansson; Knut Lundin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Immunology; Coeliac disease; Tissue transglutaminase; Endomysium; IgG antibodies; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coeliac disease (CD) is a multifactorial disease of the small intestine. In genetically predisposed individuals the, ingestion of cereals leads to a remodulation of the mucosal architecture, and the production of autoantibodies against tissue transglutaminase (tTG). The treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet. LÄS MER
