  1. 1. The discovery of antiviral compounds targeting adenovirus and herpes simplex virus : assessment of synthetic compounds and natural products

    Författare :Mårten Strand; Göran Wadell; Mikael Elofsson; Ya-Fang Mei; Lieve Naesens; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; virology; antiviral; adenovirus; herpes simplex virus; small molecule; inhibitor; hsv; drug discovery; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology; datorlingvistik; computational linguistics; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : There is a need for new antiviral drugs. Especially for the treatment of adenovirus infections, since no approved anti-adenoviral drugs are available. Adenovirus infections in healthy persons are most often associated with respiratory disease, diarrhea and infections of the eye. These infections can be severe, but are most often self-limiting. 2. 2. Function and regulation of release factor one in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Ann Dahlgren; Monica Rydén Aulin; Thomas Elliott; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molekylärgenetik; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : During translation termination the stop codons UAA and UAG are recognised by release factor one (RF1). RF1 binds to the ribosome and mediates the hydrolysis of the nascent peptide from the peptidyl-tRNA. In this process, RF1 interacts directly or indirectly with several ribosomal proteins (r-proteins). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Study of the Link between Translation Termination and Ribosome Biogenesis

    Författare :Magdalena Kaczanowska; Monica Rydén Aulin; Catherine L. Squires; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Release factor 1 (RF1) is a ribosome-binding protein required for termination of translation in Escherichia coli. To study the effect of slow termination on protein synthesis, two isolated suppressors to a temperature sensitive (Ts) mutant allele of RF1 were studied. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Translational accuracy, ribozyme efficiency and NAD metabolism in Escherichia coli

    Författare :Martin Stancek; Leif Isaksson; Lars Hederstedt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; translational accuracy; nicotinate mononucleotide adenylyltransferase; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions between the translational machinery and mRNA in Escherichia coli have been studied. In the first section nonsense codon readthrough and changed translational reading frame were measured in different growth phases. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The neurotoxin β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) and 2,4-diaminobutyric acid (DAB) : possible risk of human exposure, and the effect and function in diatoms

    Författare :Sea-Yong Kim; Sara Rydberg; Sandra Banack; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The toxic secondary metabolites β-N-methylamino-L-alanine (BMAA) and 2,4-diaminobutyric acid (DAB) produced by phytoplankton groups such as cyanobacteria, diatoms and dinoflagellates are known to cause neurotoxicity in vertebrates. BMAA has been linked to development of the neurodegenerative diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/Parkinsonism dementia complex (ALS/PDC) and Alzheimer's disease. LÄS MER
