11. Sex steroid effects on normal breast tissue
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, it is estimated that about one million women are treated with estrogen/progestogen for contraception and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The possibility of an increased cancer risk in target organs has been vividly discussed for many years. LÄS MER
12. Exploring vitamin D and steroid hormone receptors – from healthy elderly to prostate cancer cells
Sammanfattning : The genetic background together with environmental factors and lifestyle are key contributors to the health of an individual. Genetic background is inherited and irreversible unless mutations occur. However, lifestyle habits (i.e. LÄS MER
13. Sex steroid hormone receptors : inner ear and hearing
Sammanfattning : It is well known that hearing loss is more profound in elderly males than females, regardless of noise exposure. Also, an age-related hearing decline starts much earlier in males, already after the age of 30, while in women, the decline does not start until the age of 50. LÄS MER
14. Hormone therapy and the breast : aspects on proliferation, apoptosis and mammographic density
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the major malignancy among women in the western world. The breast is clearly a target organ for sex steroid hormones and hormonal treatments have been associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Still, basic knowledge as to how sex steroids influence the normal breast is remarkably poor. LÄS MER
15. In Vitro Studies of Adrenocorticolytic DDT Metabolites, with Special Focus on 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE
Sammanfattning : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy.
