  1. 11. Mucosal regeneration following sinus surgery : an experimental study and clinical study

    Författare :Karin Forsgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :chronic sinusitis; histopathology; Caldwell-Luc operation; sinus surgery; rabbit; regeneration; sinus mucosa; experimental sinusitis; microcirculation; blood flow; vasoreactivity; nerve regeneration; sympathetic; neuropeptide Y; tyrosine hydroxylase; immunocytochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The investigations described in this thesis concerned functional and structural aspects of the regenerated sinus mucosa following sinus surgery. In a biopsy material collected pre- and postoperatively from patients with chronic maxillary sinusitis, randomized for treatment with either Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) or the Caldwell-Luc procedure (CL), histological parameters were evaluated semi-quantitatively and correlated to endoscopic findings and patients' symptoms. 2. 12. Ventilation of the Paranasal Sinuses. A study using the 133-Xenon Washout Technique

    Författare :Bo Paulsson; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; single photon emission computed tomography; paranasal sinuses; ventilation; 133-xenon; chronic sinusitis; nose-sinus model; endoscopic sinus surgery; oxymetazoline; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; audiology;

    Sammanfattning : A noninvasive 133-xenon washout technique was used to evaluate the ventilation of the paranasal sinuses in healthy subjects and in patients with sinus disease. A mixture of air and 133-xenon is insufflated into the nasal cavities and passage into the sinuses is facilitated by a pressure increase created by letting the subjects inflate a balloon. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Epicardial ablation - a study evaluating thoracoscopic and surgical ablation procedures for patients with intractable atrial fibrillation

    Författare :Johan Probst; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Rasmus Borgquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; epicardial ablation; surgical ablation; quality of life; pulmonary vein isolation; mitral valve surgery; concomitant surgery; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common condition, increasing in prevalence with age. Symptoms can be severe and quality of life is affected in patients suffering from AF. Treatment regimes aim to alleviate symptoms through rate or rhythm control. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Clinical and experimental studies of bone substitutes and dental implants in compromised bone sites

    Författare :Amela Trbakovic; Andreas Thor; Patricia Hedenqvist; Christer Dahlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :clinical follow-up; calcium phosphates; rabbit model; sinus lift; radius model; in vivo; bisphosphonates; narrow diameter implants; dental implants; Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Käkkirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background: With an ageing population, an increase of more challenging implant treatments is expected. In this thesis, we evaluate the outcome of two faster implant protocols, in patients with compromised alveolar bone. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Surgical Ablation of Atrial Fibrillation with Cryo and Radiofrequency Concomitant to Mitral Valve Surgery : Clinical, Biochemical and Echocardiography Outcomes

    Författare :Gabriella Boano; Farkas Vánky; Meriam Åström Aneq; Lena Jideus; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; Mitral valve surgery; Surgical ablation; Cox-Maze IV; Left atrium remodelling; 3D echocardiography;

    Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia seen in clinical practice. In cardiac surgery, the negative influence of AF on short- and long-term outcomes has made concomitant ablation procedures more common. LÄS MER
