  1. 6. Immunologic aspects of the pathogenesis of human onchocerciasis

    Författare :Magdi Mahmoud Ali; Klavs Berzins; Norbert Brattig; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : Onchocerciasis, or river blindness, is a parasitic disease that affects more than 20 million people globally. The induction of pathology is directly related to the presence and destruction of the microfilarial stages (mf) of this filarial nematode. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Chronic limb-threatening ischaemia - Prognosis after intervention

    Författare :Erik Baubeta Fridh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amputation; arterial occlusive disease; atherosclerosis; magnetic resonance angiography; mortality; peripheral arterial disease; comorbidity;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Lower-extremity arterial disease (LEAD) is a major health problem worldwide. Chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI) is the most severe manifestation of LEAD. Open or endovascular recanalization is recommended for most patients with CLTI. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Collateral development in limb ischemia : aspects of endogenous and stimulated arteriogenesis

    Författare :Ulrika Palmer Kazen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :PAD; CLI; intermittent claudication; VEGF; FGF-2; angiogenesis; arteriogenesis; gene therapy; adenovirus; AdFGF-4; rat hindlimb ischemia model; randomized clinical trial;

    Sammanfattning : Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is common among elderly and affects about 20% of the population above the age of 60 years. PAD is a strong marker for future cardiovascular events and increased mortality due to widespread atherosclerotic lesions in the coronary and cerebral arteries. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Aspects of intensive care after cardiac arrest

    Författare :Akil Awad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiovascular disease, and in particular cardiac arrest with the subsequent associated brain injury, is the most common cause of death in many countries. Annually, around 6000 people suffer from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) in Sweden and only around 10% survive to hospital discharge. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth

    Författare :Lars Björklund; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Respiration; Artificial; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Respiratory Function Tests; Pulmonary Surfactants; Newborn; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Infant; Premature; Animals;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout.
