  1. 1. Risk attitude and patients’ experience with treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm and severe claudication

    Författare :Anna Letterstål; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Abdominal aortic aneurysm; severe IC; surgery; information; health related quality of life; risk attitude; preference; QALY; content analysis; postoperative recovery;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate the effect of information on well-being after open surgical repair (OR) of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and to explore the experience of the care pathway of OR from the patients perspective as well as to describe risk attitude and preference for treatment of AAA and severe intermittent claudication (IC). The effect of information was assessed during the first week after returning to the surgical ward using a study-specific questionnaire in patients with AAA randomized to receive either additional written information (EG) or best practice (CG). 2. 2. The activation and regulation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells in SLE : and possible therapeutic interventions

    Författare :Karin Hjorton; Lars Rönnblom; Maija-Leena Eloranta; Hans Carlsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SLE; pDCs; NK cells; interferon; autoantibodies; immune complex; hydroxychloroquine; IRAK4 inhibition;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, characterized by the presence of anti-nuclear antibodies and the formation of nucleic acid containing immune complexes (ICs), which can cause organ damage by deposition in tissues. ICs strongly trigger the plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) to produce interferon (IFN)-α, which potently activates the immune system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Immunopathology of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Leishmania donovani Infection in Sudan

    Författare :Amir I. Elshafie; Johan Rönnelid; Anders Bengtsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Immune complexes (IC) and antibody production against self-antigens play a pathological key role in the development of autoimmunity that occurs in patients with parasitic infections and rheumatic diseases. My studies have targeted two groups of patients from Sudan; patients with visceral leishmaniasis (VL) and patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular genetic studies of three autosomal recessive disorders : Sjögren-Larsson syndrome, glutathione synthetase deficiency and congenital ichthyosis

    Författare :Maritta Pigg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Sjögren-Larsson syndrome; glutathione synthetase deficiency; congenital ichthyosis; linkage analysis; allelic association; mutation analysis; transglutaminase 1 gene; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics; klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Investigations at the DNA level were performed in order to characterise the molecular basis forthree genetic disorders:Sjögren-Larsson syndrome (SLS) is characterised by congenital ichthyosis and severeneurological symptoms. Linkage analysis and allelic association of 24 Swedish families affectedby SLS showed linkage between the disease and the marker D17S805 on chromosome 17. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Bowel Habits and Functional Constipation - A Longitudinal Birth Cohort Study of Children Born in Gothenburg

    Författare :Cathrine Gatzinsky; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bowel habits; functional gastrointestinal disorder; infant colic; infant dyschezia; functional constipation; high resolution anorectal manometry; trans abdominal ultrasound; transverse rectal diameter;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Parents often visit health facilities with concerns regarding their child’s bowel function. Data on bowel habits from healthy children is important in establishing what is normal and what is not. LÄS MER
