  1. 1. Importance of serotonin-related candidate genes for human behaviour

    Författare :Jonas Melke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; genetics; polymorphism; association study; personality; panic disorder; premenstrual dysphoria; serotonin receptor; serotonin transporter;

    Sammanfattning : Family and twin studies have been consistent in demonstrating that genetic factors are involved in the etiology of most major psychiatric disorders, as well as in various normal personality traits. Mostly due to the efficacy of serotonin-acting drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), the neurotransmitter serotonin has been implicated in a variety of common psychiatric disorders, including depression, a spectrum of anxiety disorders, and premenstrual dysphoria; moreover, some studies have suggested that also personality is influenced by serotonin. 2. 2. Imaging serotonin and dopamine transporters in social anxiety disorder : Characterization, treatment and expectancy effects

    Författare :Olof Hjorth; Tomas Furmark; Andreas Frick; Eduard Maron; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; PET; serotonin; dopamine; placebo; SSRI; CBT; MRI; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychiatry; Psykiatri; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The monoamines serotonin and dopamine are likely to be involved in the pathophysiology of social anxiety and other affective disorders, but their respective contributions and putative interactions in the causes and cures of these disorders are still not well understood. It is also largely unknown if and how expectations of treatment success affect brain neurochemistry and neural activations, and if expectations interact with antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). 3. 3. Development of novel serotonin 5-HT6 and dopamine D2 receptor ligands and MAO A inhibitors - Synthesis, structure-activity relationships and pharmacological characterization

    Författare :Cecilia Mattsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dopamine D2 receptor; serotonin reuptake transporter; monoamine oxidase; 5-HT6 receptor; DOPAC; 5-HIAA; 3-tetrahydropyridine indole; 3-piperidine indole; 3- pyrrolidin-1-ylmethyl chromen-2-one; dopamine D2 receptor;

    Sammanfattning : It is known since the 1950s that enhancement of the levels of the monoamines dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE) in the brain will relieve the symptoms of major depression, and current therapies are still based on this mechanism. However, all available antidepressants today are still suffering from slow onset of therapeutic action, as well as adverse effects and lack of efficacy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. PET studies of the serotonin system in major depression and its treatment

    Författare :Mikael Tiger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The serotonin system has been implicated in major depression since the 1960s, mainly based on the serotonin enhancing properties of antidepressants. Positron emission tomography, PET, is the in vivo molecular imaging method with the best spatial resolution. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Serotonin system in Alzheimer’s disease : from a molecular and biomarkers perspective

    Författare :Walid Tajeddinn Abderhim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Serotonin, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) is a monoamine neurotransmitter with a wide range of biological functions. It contributes to the integrity, connectivity and function of the central nervous system (CNS). LÄS MER
