  1. 6. Physical activity and its effect on bone in the short- and long- term perspective

    Författare :Christian Lindén; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; fractures; children; exercise; bone size; osteoporosis; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; aBMD;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoporosis is a growing problem worldwide where Sweden has one of the highest fragility fracture incidences in the world. The growing years are thought to be an opportune time to build strong bones and the enhancement of peak bone mass (PBM) has been suggested as a prevention strategy for osteoporosis. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Essays on the Evaluation of Public Policies

    Författare :Michihito Ando; Matz Dahlberg; Che-Yuan Liang; David Neumark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Local income growth; Local employment; Nuclear power facilities; Synthetic control method; Quantitative case study; Regression kink design; Endogenous treatment; Intergovernmental grants; Flypaper effect; Treatment effect heterogeneity; Instrumental variable; Oral health; Dentures; Price elasticity; Regression discontinuity design; Cost sharing; Randomization test; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four self-contained papers.Essay 1: This paper uses the synthetic control (SC) method to examine how the establishment of Nuclear Power Facilities (NPFs) in Japan in the 1970s and 1980s has affected local per capita income levels in the municipalities in which they were located (NPF municipalities). 3. 8. Essays on Microeconometrics and Immigrant Assimilation

    Författare :Alpaslan Akay; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Average marginal effect; Marginal effect of the average individual; Employment and earnings assimilation; Quasi-fixed effects approach; Initial value problem; Dynamic censored random-effects model; Monte Carlo experiment; Heckman’s approximation; Simple method of Wooldridge; Dynamic random-effects sample-selection model; wage-curve method;

    Sammanfattning : Paper I. Asymptotic bias reduction for a conditional marginal effects estimator in sam- ple selection models. In this article we discuss the di¤erences between the average marginal effect and the mar- ginal effect of the average individual in sample selection models, estimated by the Heck- man procedure. 4. 9. Young Star Clusters and Clumps in the Local Universe : The effect of galactic environment on star formation

    Författare :Matteo Messa; Angela Adamo; Göran Östlin; Steven Longmore; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galaxies; Star formation; Star clusters; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Stars do not form in isolation, but rather out of a hierarchical structure set by the turbulence of the interstellar medium. At the densest peak of the gas distribution, the star formation process can produce young star clusters (YSCs), which are gravitationally bound systems of stars with mass between ~100 and 106 MSun and typical size of few parsecs. 5. 10. An Experimental Study of Liquid Steel Sampling

    Författare :Ola Ericsson; Pär Jönsson; Andrey Karasev; Malin Hallberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; liquid steel sampling; slag protection; filling velocity; solidification rate; sample homogeneity; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Sampling of liquid steel to control the steel making process is very important in the steel industry. However, there are numerous types of disposable samplers and no united standard for sampling. The goal in this study is to investigate the effect of slag protection type and sample geometry on sampling parameters and sample homogeneity. LÄS MER
