  1. 16. Density functional studies of EPR and NMR parameters of paramagnetic systems

    Författare :Lyudmyla G. Telyatnyk; Olav Vahtras; Martin Kaupp; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin-restricted DFT; restricted-unrestricted approach; EPR spin Hamiltonian parameters; NMR spin Hamiltonian parameters; Bioorganic chemistry; Bioorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Experimental methods based on the magnetic resonance phenomenon belong to the most widely used experimental techniques for investigations of molecular and electronic structure. The difficulty with such experiments, usually a proper interpretation of data obtained from high-resolution spectra, opens new challenges for pure theoretical methods. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Birds as a Model for Comparative Genomic Studies

    Författare :Axel Künstner; Hans Ellegren; Hanna Johannesson; Chris Ponting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Birds; Selection; Gene expression; Sequence evolution; Next-generation sequencing; Comparative genomics; Molecular evolution; Genomics; Substitution Rates; Non-coding DNA; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Comparative genomics provides a tool to investigate large biological datasets, i.e. genomic datasets. In my thesis I focused on inferring patterns of selection in coding and non-coding regions of avian genomes. LÄS MER

  3. 18. CD1d restricted NKT cells in regulation of pathogenic autoimmunity

    Författare :Anna Teige; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmunity; NKT cells; CD1d antigen presentation; Multiple sclerosis; Rheumatoid arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : Human autoimmune diseases such as reumatoid arthritis (RA) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are believed to develop when self-tolerance mechanisms are failing, with a chronic destructive inflammation as result. To experimentally study autoimmunity, we have used murine models that mimic their human counterparts; experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) – a model for MS, and collagen induced arthritis (CIA) and antigen induced arthritis (AIA) – models for RA. 4. 19. Stress and immune signaling in a Drosophila tumor model

    Författare :Dilan Khalili; Ulrich Theopold; Mirka Uhlirova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drosophila; cancer; innate immunity; fibrosis; antimicrobial peptides; chitinase-like proteins; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer cells contain multiple biological alterations that allow them to escape from host surveillance mechanisms. One of the mechanisms that play an essential role in host protection against tumor growth is immunity. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Drosophila immune responses in a model for epithelial hypertrophy

    Författare :Robert Krautz; Ulrich Theopold; Hugo Stocker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Apoptosis, differentiation and proliferation have to be tightly balanced and thus regulated to maintain tissue homeostasis. Stress, metabolic cues, genetic variability, infections and physiological host-commensal interactions influence this balance and thus need to be integrated. Therefore, beyond the discrimination between self and non-self (i.e. LÄS MER
