  1. 1. Development of breastfeeding behavior in preterm infants : Behavioral and neurophysiological evidence of early competence

    Författare :Kerstin Hedberg Nyqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Behavior; breastfeeding; development; electromyography; infant; mother; newborn; nurse; observation; oral; preterm; reliability; sucking; validity; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : The objectives of this thesis were to develop a method for observation of maturational steps in preterm infants' breastfeeding behavior, test the reliability and validity of this method, describe this development and explore effects of certain infant and maternal factors on infant breastfeeding behavior. The Preterm Infant Breastfeeding Behavior Scale (PIBBS) was developed. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evolution of genetic mechanisms regulating reproductive development in plants : Characterisation of MADS-box genes active during cone development in Norway spruce

    Författare :Jens Sundström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Picea abies; evolution; flower development; transcription factor; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; fysiologisk botanik; Physiological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : The reproductive organs of conifers and angiosperms differ in morphology in several fundamental respects. The conifer Norway spruce (Picea abies) form pollen and seed cones from separate meristems whereas angiosperms bear bipartite flowers with sepals and petals surrounding two inner whorls of stamens and carpels. 3. 3. Reproductive investment in Syngnathus typhle, the broad-nosed pipefish

    Författare :Ines Goncalves; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Syngnathidae; sex-role reversal; paternal care; male quality; female choice; maternal effects; reproductive compensation; embryo development; brood reduction.;

    Sammanfattning : Manuscripts: 1 - Reproductive compensation by broad-nosed pipefish females. 2 - Male size is a predictor of quality of parental care in the broad-nosed pipefish... LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Influence of Intrauterine Environment on Cardiovascular Development During Fetal Life

    Författare :Helena Gardiner; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduktion; sexualitet; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; Obstetrics; gynaecology; arterial distensibility; twin-twin transfusion; Growth-restriction; Fetal; Cardiovascular Development; andrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Fetal growth restriction has been linked to later cardiovascular disease, possibly through reduced arterial distensibility in response to a suboptimal intrauterine environment. This thesis sought firstly to examine the relationship between fetal growth and haemodynamics and their effect on later cardiovascular function and secondly to examine the effects of differential volume loading on arterial distensibility in genetically identical monochorionic twins with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and to explore the effect that early treatment has on vascular development. 5. 5. The role of microclimate for the performance and distribution of forest plants

    Författare :C. Johan Dahlberg; Kristoffer Hylander; Johan Ehrlén; Jason D. Fridley; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; performance; microclimate; spatial scales; continental; landscape; distribution patterns; distribution limits; phenology; vegetative development; reproductive development; vital rates; population growth rate; vascular plants; bryophytes; distribution modelling; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Microclimatic gradients may have large influence on individual vital rates and population growth rates of species, and limit their distributions. Therefore, I focused on the influence of microclimate on individual performance and distribution of species. LÄS MER
