11. Exploration of analytical methods to study motif-mediated host-virus protein-protein interactions
Sammanfattning : Proteins are responsible for countless processes in living creatures, but most often they do not perform these tasks alone. Rather, they engage in interactions with other proteins, creating whole protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. LÄS MER
12. Macrolide Antibiotics in Bacterial Protein Synthesis
Sammanfattning : Macrolides are a large group of clinically relevant antibiotics that inhibit protein synthesis by binding to the large ribosomal subunit in the peptide exit tunnel, close to the peptidyl transferase center (PTC). We have shown that the peptide length of the resulting peptidyl-tRNA drop-off products is proportional to the distance between the PTC and the respective macrolide in the tunnel. LÄS MER
13. Development and applications of NMR relaxation methods to study protein and ligand dynamics
Sammanfattning : This thesis involves the study of proteins. These molecules exist in many variants, and perform most of our bodily functions. This includes signaling (for example the presence of capsaicin, which makes food spicy), molecular transport (including oxygen), catalysis (including food digestion) and part of our body structure (such as muscles). 14. Polymer and Protein Physics : Simulations of Interactions and Dynamics
Sammanfattning : Proteins can, without any exaggeration, be called the "building blocks of life". Their physical properties depend not only on the chemical structure but also on their geometric shape. In this thesis, I investigate protein geometry using several different methods. We start with a coarse-graining model to study the general behavior of polymers. LÄS MER
15. Design, Synthesis and Characterization of Small Molecule Inhibitors and Small Molecule : Peptide Conjugates as Protein Actors
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes different aspects of protein interactions. Initially the function of peptides and their conjugates with small molecule inhibitors on the surface of Human Carbonic Anhydrase isoenzyme II (HCAII) is evaluated. LÄS MER
