  1. 1. Development and applications of NMR relaxation methods to study protein and ligand dynamics

    Författare :Sven Wernersson; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR; NMR relaxation; Method development; Protein dynamics; BRD4; Galectin 3; Kärnmagnetisk resonansspektroskopi; proteindynamik; Metodutveckling; NMR; BRD4; Galektin 3;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis involves the study of proteins. These molecules exist in many variants, and perform most of our bodily functions. This includes signaling (for example the presence of capsaicin, which makes food spicy), molecular transport (including oxygen), catalysis (including food digestion) and part of our body structure (such as muscles). 2. 2. Functional properties of galectin-3. Beyond the sugar binding

    Författare :Adriana Lepur; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; galectin-3; galectin-1; M1 macrophage; M2 macrophage; self-association; fluorescence anisotropy; citrus pectin; galactomannane;

    Sammanfattning : Contemporary diseases like diabetes, asthma, atherosclerosis etc. are marked by chronic inflammation, often supported by the activity of different macrophages. Proteins from galectin family were found to contribute to disease pathophysiology. Therefore, there is an intensive interest in understanding different galectin functions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular basis for galectin-ligand interactions : Design, synthesis and analysis of ligands

    Författare :Kristoffer Peterson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Galectin; Structure-based design; Thiodigalactoside; Huisgen 1; 3-dipolar cycloaddition; Protein-ligand binding interactions;

    Sammanfattning : Galectins are a class of β-galactoside-binding proteins that bind glycoconjugates and have been implicated in cancer, regulation of immunity and inflammation. Design and synthesis have achieved highly potent and selective galectin ligands that can inhibit interactions with glycoproteins and have consequent cellular effects. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Synthetic Galectin Inhibitors Selective O-galactosyl aldoximes, multivalent lactosides and galactose-mimicking mannosides

    Författare :Johan Tejler; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Proteiner; enzymology; Proteins; Glycomimetic; Fragment based; Cluster effect; Multivalence; Triazole; Inhibitor; Aldoxime; enzymologi; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; Galectin; Lectin;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and evaluation of synthetic inhibitors for the carbohydrate binding proteins called galectins. Potent and selective inhibitors can be used as important research tools in the endeavor to chart the true role of galectins in biological events such as cancer and inflammation and possibly as lead for future galectin targeting drugs. 5. 5. Studies on Peripheral Nerve Regeneration: Microdispensing, Neurite Guidance and Galectins

    Författare :Per Gustavsson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vävnadskultur; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; Schwann cells; sciatic nerve; dorsal root ganglia; DRG; neurite guidance; galectins; inkjet; microdispensing; peripheral nervous system; nerve regeneration; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis describes development of a microdispenser-based technique to create of protein patterns for neurite guidance. The same technique was also developed to allow direct positioning of dissociated cells, including neurons, on cell culture substrates. Finally the role of galectin-3 and 8 during nerve regeneration was investigated. LÄS MER
