  1. 21. Dynamics in Protein Synthesis, Structural Studies of Translation Factors

    Författare :Martin Laurberg; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biophysics; Flexibility; Fusidic Acid; tRNA; Translation Factors; Ribosome; Molekylär biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Protein biosynthesis is performed on ribosomes. The ribosome is a complex of ribosomal RNA and proteins forming two subunits. A messenger RNA strand is decoded on the small subunit by charged aminoacyl transfer RNA (aa-tRNA) molecules and each tRNA molecule delivers its amino acid to the growing polypeptide chain on the large subunit. 2. 22. Ribosome Associated Factors Recruited for Protein Export and Folding

    Författare :Amanda Raine; Jarl Wikberg; Harris Bernstein; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; Signal recognition particle; trigger factor; ribosomes; protein folding; membrane targeting; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Protein folding and export to the membrane are crucial events in the cell. Both processes may be initiated already at the ribosome, assisted by factors that bind to the polypeptide as it emerges from the ribosome. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Pituitary Tumor Surgery - factors influencing outcome

    Författare :Tobias Hallén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery; biomarkers; glial fibrillary acidic protein; neurofilaments; tau protein; pituitary tumors; sinonasal health; tumor progression; predictive markers; MCM7; methylation patterns; NFPA;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Pituitary tumors represent 15–20% of intracranial tumors. The majority are benign adenomas, of which 30 % are hormonally inactive, the non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPAs). LÄS MER

  4. 24. To Fold or To Fibrillate? Serendipity in Stability Studies

    Författare :Olga Szczepankiewicz; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein stability; protein reconstitution; protein aggregation; Monellin; PGB1; Split-GFP; Amyloid beta;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are complex structures and years of research have been spent on attempts to understand their complexity. The non-covalent interactions involved in protein folding are: hydrophobic effect, electrostatic interactions, van der Waals interactions and hydrogen bonding. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Signaling factors related to atrophy and hypertrophy in denervated skeletal muscle

    Författare :Ann-Kristin Fjällström; Sven Tågerud; Jan Henriksson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrophy; Hypertrophy; Skeletal muscle; Denervation; Protein synthesis; Protein degradation; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The human body consists of about 40 % skeletal muscles which control the body’s movement, ability to stand up, force generation, locomotion, heat production and are also the body’s protein reservoir. Muscle mass is controlled by the relationship between protein synthesis and protein degradation. LÄS MER
