  1. 1. Tools and technology : Lithic technological analysis of Neolithic axe morphology

    Författare :Deborah Olausson; Arkeologi; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Lithic technology; Neolithic; flint axes; stone axes; practical trials; style;

    Sammanfattning : Through practical experiments, edge-wear analysis, and the study of archaeological collections, the dissertation explores the complex relationship between style and function in a specific class of artifacts: the Neolithic axe. The results of the three-part approach described above, when applied for instance to thin-butted axes from the Funnel Beaker Culture, indicated that there was no clear-cut cass of unusable prestige axes, but rather that axe length more likely reflected practical rather than stylistic considerations. 2. 2. Practical Implementation of Quality Assurance Guidelines for Hyperthermia Therapy

    Författare :Mattia de Lazzari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hyperthermia; quality assurance; tissue-mimicking phantoms;

    Sammanfattning : Hyperthermia therapy (HT) has been proven to be a potent enhancer of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in numerous clinical trials. The effectiveness of HT is strictly dependent on the administered thermal dose, which, in turn, is dependent on the quality of the therapeutic heat applied to the patient. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Applied Adaptive Optimal Design and Novel Optimization Algorithms for Practical Use

    Författare :Eric Strömberg; Andrew Hooker; Mats Karlsson; Timothy Waterhouse; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models; Pharmacometrics; Fisher Information Matrix; Approximation; Optimality Criterion; Parallelization; Model Based Adaptive Optimal Design; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The costs of developing new pharmaceuticals have increased dramatically during the past decades. Contributing to these increased expenses are the increasingly extensive and more complex clinical trials required to generate sufficient evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of the drugs. 4. 4. Learning aspects of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and learning activities in basic life support - a study among laypersons at workplaces in Sweden

    Författare :Helene Bylow; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adult; Automated external defibrillation; Basic life support; Cardiff Test; Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; Cardiovascular disease; Confidence; Experiential learning; Feedback; Instructor-led learning; Layperson; Learning; Mobile application; Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest; Reflection; Survival; Self-learning; Training; Web-based education; Willingness;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Despite healthcare improvements, prevention for cardiovascular health, training in adult basic life support (BLS) with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED), together with increased public awareness of cardiovascular disease, survival from OHCA still remains poor. 5. 5. Biological and mechanical subsoiling in potato production – a participatory research approach

    Författare :Victor Guamán; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Soil compaction in agricultural fields has increased due to the use of heavy agricultural machinery and intensified vehicular traffic. Compaction reduces total porosity, permeability and water-holding capacity in soil, leading to poorer aeration and impeded root development and nutrient uptake. LÄS MER
