  1. 1. Optimal (Adaptive) Design and Estimation Performance in Pharmacometric Modelling

    Författare :Alan Maloney; Ulrika Simonsson; Mats Karlsson; Andy Grieve; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Phase II; dose response; optimal design; adaptive design; exposure response; count data;

    Sammanfattning : The pharmaceutical industry now recognises the importance of the newly defined discipline of pharmacometrics. Pharmacometrics uses mathematical models to describe and then predict the performance of new drugs in clinical development. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optimal designs; optimal adaptive designs; randomization in clinical trials; restricted randomization; adaptive randomization; unequal cost; allocation ratio preserving randomization procedures; heterogeneous costs; multi-arm clinical trials; randomization-based inference; unequal allocation; Tillämpad matematik och statistik; Applied Mathematics and Statistics;

    Sammanfattning : In this Ph.D. thesis, we investigate how to optimize the design of clinical trials by constructing optimal adaptive designs, and how to implement the design by adaptive randomization. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Adaptive and model-based control in laminar boundary-layer flows

    Författare :Nicolò Fabbiane; Dan S. Henningson; Aimee S. Morgans; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flow control; Control theory; Optimal control; Adaptive control; Boundary-layer flow; Fluid dynamics; Plasma actuator; Surface hot-wire; Transition delay;

    Sammanfattning : In boundary-layer flows it is possible to reduce the friction drag by breaking the path from laminar to turbulent state. In low turbulence environments, the laminar-to-turbulent transition is dominated by local flow instabilities – Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) waves – that exponentially grows while being con- vected by the flow and, eventually, lead to transition. 4. 4. Model Based Speech Enhancement and Coding

    Författare :David Yuheng Zhao; Bastiaan Kleijn; Peter Kabal; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; statistical model; Gaussian mixture mdel GMM ; hidden Markov model HMM ; moise reduction; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Sammanfattning : In mobile speech communication, adverse conditions, such as noisy acoustic environments and unreliable network connections, may severely degrade the intelligibility and natural- ness of the received speech quality, and increase the listening effort. This thesis focuses on countermeasures based on statistical signal processing techniques. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Applied Adaptive Optimal Design and Novel Optimization Algorithms for Practical Use

    Författare :Eric Strömberg; Andrew Hooker; Mats Karlsson; Timothy Waterhouse; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models; Pharmacometrics; Fisher Information Matrix; Approximation; Optimality Criterion; Parallelization; Model Based Adaptive Optimal Design; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The costs of developing new pharmaceuticals have increased dramatically during the past decades. Contributing to these increased expenses are the increasingly extensive and more complex clinical trials required to generate sufficient evidence regarding the safety and efficacy of the drugs.
