26. Spatial and temporal population dynamics in the mountain tundra – mesopredator and prey
Sammanfattning : It is well known that competition, predation and fluctuating food resources can have strong effect on individual fitness and population dynamics. The complexity of natural systems can make it complicate to disentangle those processes, but environments with relatively simple food webs, and strong cyclic population dynamics offer contrasting conditions resembling experimental treatments. 27. Investigating genetic factors behind the decline of a threatened plant species – Tephroseris integrifolia (Asteraceae)
Sammanfattning : Landscape change in Europe has caused the decline of many grassland species. Tephroseris integrifolia (Asteraceae) is one species which has declined rapidly in Sweden since the 19th century. LÄS MER
28. Change and variability in cognitive performance in old age. Effects of retest, terminal decline, and pre-clinical dementia
Sammanfattning : The focus of the presented studies was to provide population estimates of change and variability in cognitive performance in old age. Data was drawn from the Gerontological and Geriatric Population Studies in Gothenburg, Sweden (H70). In study I retest effects were evaluated on level of performance in five cognitive abilities. 29. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) : prevalence, incidence, decline in lung function and risk factors
Sammanfattning : The Obstructive Lung Disease in Northern Sweden (OLIN) Studies started in 1985 as an epidemiological project with the aim to detect preventable risk factors for obstructive lung diseases and allergy. In recent years there has been a focus also on obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) besides asthma and allergy. LÄS MER
30. Cerebrovascular disease and dementia : a population-based study
Sammanfattning : Several vascular factors have been related to cognitive decline and dementia. One of the recent efforts has been focused on stroke, which could be prevented with appropriate measures. The data for this thesis were derived from the baseline and first follow-up of the Kungsholmen Project. LÄS MER
