   Sammanfattning : This study is concerned with tracing the process of how conflict prevention is moving from the realm of ideas to the field of action. Why is it that, despite historical as well as recent evidence of the infeasibility to prevent wars, the idea of conflict prevention has resurfaced to meet the challenge of the new wars of the post-Cold War era? The study investigates whether the growing interest in preventing the outbreak of violent conflicts marks the coming of age of conflict prevention as an international norm able to induce preventive practices.    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines how Erik XIV and Johan III of Sweden used ethos construction and rhetoric to legitimize the new strong royal power during their combined reign from 1561 to 1592. The study analyses three different crises of legitimacy to understand how the kings and their allies negotiated these challenges and how the various strategies used by the rulers affected their ability to expand the space of legitimate royal power.    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the role played by the topic of immorality in the extant speeches of the Roman politician Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BCE)and subsequently in the Roman political culture of the late Republic. It traces the portraits of immorality that Cicero made of his political and forensic enemies throughout his political career and his use of immorality as an argument in the Roman Senate, public assembly, and the courts.
