  1. 1. Norm Acceptance in the International Community : A study of disaster risk reduction and climate-induced migration

    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; International Relations; norms; norm diffusion; norm acceptance; norm emergence; norm life cycle; disaster risk reduction; climate-induced migration; climate refugees; climate security; internationella relationer; International Relations;

    Sammanfattning : Different kinds of normative claims and statements of “oughtness” infuse the international political environment. But why do some proposed norms become accepted by the international community while others do not? This thesis investigates this central question using two normatively charged international issues as vehicles for explanation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. From Idea to Norm : Promoting Conflict Prevention

    Författare :Annika Björkdahl; Statsvetenskapliga institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Polemology; international relations; social constructivism; norm entrepreneur; norm evolution; international norms; Swedish foreign policy; the European Union; conflict prevention; the United Nations; Freds- och konfliktforskning;

    Sammanfattning : This study is concerned with tracing the process of how conflict prevention is moving from the realm of ideas to the field of action. Why is it that, despite historical as well as recent evidence of the infeasibility to prevent wars, the idea of conflict prevention has resurfaced to meet the challenge of the new wars of the post-Cold War era? The study investigates whether the growing interest in preventing the outbreak of violent conflicts marks the coming of age of conflict prevention as an international norm able to induce preventive practices. 3. 3. Micro- and macroevolutionary aspects of body size diversification and thermal adaptation in insects

    Författare :John Waller; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :Evolution; body size; Insects; dragonflies; damselflies; Odonata; Comparative methods; fossils;

    Sammanfattning : Body size and body temperature are the two most important traits in biology. In this thesis I show how these twovariables have shaped the evolution of insects over the last 300 million years. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The groups with which we associate influence our actions. This is often the case even when they are not deliberately organised but rather based on social categories, such as sex and skin colour, or cultural homogeneity, such as common language or customs. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Predator induced phenotypic plasticity in a freshwater snail

    Författare :Thomas Lakowitz; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dispersal; Radix balthica; shell morphology; reaction norm; multiple predators; cost of plasticity; intraspecific competition; inerspecific competition;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I examined a phenotypically plastic defence in a common freshwater snail, Radix balthica. Adaptive prey defences may involve behavioural, life-history or morphological changes. Snails are important species in freshwater systems. LÄS MER
