  1. 31. Studies on the level of substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide in cerebrospinal fluid of pregnant women and patients with chronic pain and in rat brain after spinal cord injury : Special reference to analytical aspects of neuropeptides

    Författare :Zhurong Liu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Substance P; Calcitonin gene-related peptide; Radioimmunoassay; High performance liquidchromatography; Cerebrospinal fluid and chronic pain; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmacognosy; farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : Substance P (SP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) are sensory peptides known to be involved innociception and inflammatory processes. It is well demonstrated that the two peptides can be released from spinal cord neurons during inflammation and chronic pain induced by peripheral nerve injury. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Effect of the tri-peptide glycyl-prolyl-glycine amide on HIV-1 replication

    Författare :Jin Su; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1; antiretrovirals; peptides; tri-peptides; GPG-NH2; capsid formation; p24 dimerization; coneshaped core; GPG motif; V3 loop; infectivity;

    Sammanfattning : The human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) is the etiological agent responsible for AIDS worldwide. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the anti-HIV-1 activity of short peptides and to investigate their mode of inhibition. LÄS MER

  3. 33. Antiplasmin the main plasmin inhibitor in blood plasma : studies on structure-function relationships

    Författare :Haiyao Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Antiplasmin; lysine-binding-site; inactivation;

    Sammanfattning : Antiplasmin is an important regulator of the fibrinolytic system. It inactivates plasmin very rapidly. The reaction between plasmin and antiplasmin occurs in several steps: first a lysine-binding site in plasmin interacts with a complementary site in antiplasmin. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Kinetic stabilization of transthyretin and its role as an inhibitor of Aβ amyloid formation

    Författare :Lina Nilsson; Anders Olofsson; Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Gunilla Westermark; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amyloid; transthyretin; amyloid beta; kinetic stabilizer; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Amyloid formation occurs when normally soluble proteins and peptides misfold and aggregate into intractable threadlike structures called fibrils. There are currently more than 30 proteins associated with this aberrant structure, including the Aβ peptide in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and transthyretin (TTR) in TTR amyloidosis. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Biosensor Studies of Ligand Interactions with Structurally Flexible Enzymes : Applications for Antiviral Drug Development

    Författare :Matthis Geitmann; U. Helena Danielson; Marc H. V. van Regenmortel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; SPR biosensor; HIV-1 reverse transcriptase; HCMV protease; interaction kinetics; drug discovery; non-nucleoside inhibitor; resistance; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The use of a surface plasmon biosensor fills a missing link in kinetic studies of enzymes, since it measures directly the interaction between biomolecules and allows determination of parameters that are determined only indirectly in activity assays. The present thesis deals with kinetic and dynamic aspects of ligand binding to two viral enzymes: the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) protease and the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase (HIV-1 RT).
