6. Inflammatory response and intervention in experimental acute pancreatitis
Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The overall aim of the thesis was to study mechanisms of the inflammatory response in AP with special emphasis on local, systemic, and distant organ injury directed at different signalling pathways, and potential therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of inflammation and cell injury following AP. 7. Potential Therapeutic Applications of Novel Bioengineered Tissues and Organs Using Methods of Decellularization and Recellularization
Sammanfattning : The transplantation of personalized organs or tissues will benefit patients with various diseases and disorders. Decellularization is a method to generate an acellular, non-immunogenic natural scaffold. LÄS MER
8. Pancreatic carcinoma in Malmö, Sweden: Clinical, epidemiological and biochemical aspects
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis has been to assess whether there are indications suggesting that new methods for diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic carcinoma (PCa) has been followed by an improved prognosis, and to assess the possible role of smoking and gastric resection in the causation of the disease. Of the 1,200 new cases PCa diagnosed in Sweden yearly, the majority are older than 70 years, the case fatality rate being close to 100%. LÄS MER
9. Acute Pancreatitis. Studies on smoking and protease activation
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Activation of pancreatic proteases is considered to be a crucial event in the early phase of acute pancreatitis but the cause of this activation is not known. Most cases of acute pancreatitis can be attributed to either gallstone disease or alcohol abuse. However, little is known about other risk factors. LÄS MER
10. Trypsinogen and Its Activation in Acute Pancreatitis
Sammanfattning : Pancreatic enzymes, neutrophils, free radicals and cytokines are involved in the pathophysiology of AP. Clarification of their interaction and time-course will improve our understanding of AP and provide a better basis for treatment. LÄS MER
