  1. 1. Inflammatory response and intervention in experimental acute pancreatitis

    Författare :Changbin Shi; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; signalling pathways; protein kinase C; nuclear factor-kB; leukocytes; inflammatory mediators; immunosuppression; acute pancreatitis; extracellular signal-regulated kinase;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The overall aim of the thesis was to study mechanisms of the inflammatory response in AP with special emphasis on local, systemic, and distant organ injury directed at different signalling pathways, and potential therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of inflammation and cell injury following AP. 2. 2. Delayed Cell Death after Traumatic Brain Injury : Role of Reactive Oxygen Species

    Författare :Fredrik Clausen; Lars Hillered; Tiit Mathiesen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Traumatic Brain Injury; Reactive oxygen species; Fluid percussion injury; Controlled cortical impact; weight drop injury; Extracellular-signal regulated kinase; apoptosis; free radical scavenging; morphology; functional outcome; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability TBI survivors often suffer from severe disturbances of cognition, memory and emotions. Improving the treatment is of great importance, but as of yet no specific neuroprotective treatment has been found. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Receptor tyrosine kinase c-Kit signalling in hematopoietic progenitor cells

    Författare :Charlotte Edling; Bengt Hallberg; Pontus Aspenström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; RTK; c-Kit; MAPK; PI3K; PKC; hematopoietic cells; proliferation; differentiation; apoptosis; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : The receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) c-Kit is expressed in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, mast cells and in several non-hematopoietic tissues. In the hematopoietic system c-Kit and its ligand Steel Factor (SF, aka Stem Cell Factor) are critical for proliferation, survival and differentiation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fatty acids induce potentially atherogenic changes in extracellular matrix proteoglycans

    Författare :Mariam Rodríguez-Lee; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :proteoglycans; glycosaminoglycans; fatty acids; smooth muscle cells; hepatocytes; LDL binding; remnant clearance; insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with an increased prevalence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). A key step in the initiation of atherogenesis is retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the intima by chondroitin sulfate (CS)-rich proteoglycans (PG). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Role of p70 S6 kinase in the formation of tau pathologies in Alzheimer’s disease

    Författare :Wen-Lin An; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Alzheimer s disease; p70 S6 kinase; tau; protein translation; accumulation; phosphorylation;

    Sammanfattning : One of the important neuropathological features of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the tau pathology seen as accumulation and hyperphosphorylation of this protein. Evidences showed that tau could be phosphorylated mostly at serine/threonine (S/T) residues by many kinases, including protein kinase B, glycogen synthase kinase (GSK)-3beta, extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK1/2), ERK1/2 kinase (MEK1/2), c-Jun Nterminal kinase (JNK), and p38.
