  1. 16. The xanthophyll cycle, its enzymes, pigments and regulation

    Författare :Marie Eskling Carlsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zeaxanthin; xanthophyll cycle; violaxanthin de-epoxidase; thylakoid; spinach; regulation; purification; pigments; photoprotection; pH dependence; ascorbate; light stress; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The xanthophyll cycle involves the light-dependent and reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. Zeaxanthin has been implicated in the protection of the photosynthetic machinery from over-excitation. The enzyme violaxanthin de-epoxidase catalyses the conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. 2. 17. Interpreting a Giant : Studies of Structure and Function of Tripeptidyl-peptidase II

    Författare :Sandra Eklund; Birgitta Tomkinson; Beate Rockel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tripeptidyl-peptidas II; molecular ruler; sequence signatures; pH-dependence; endopeptidase; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Tripeptidyl-peptidase II (TPP II) is a subtilisin-like serine peptidase that forms a gigantic homooligomeric complex, and is involved in the degradation of peptides in the cytosol. In addition, TPP II has been implicated in specific cellular processes, such as apoptosis control and adipogenesis, but if this is dependent on its endo- or exopeptidase activity remains to be determined. 3. 18. The birth and growth of the protein folding nucleus : Studies of protein folding focused on critical contacts, topology and ionic interactions

    Författare :Linda Hedberg; Mikael Oliveberg; Christopher Johnson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein folding; protein stability; two-state folding; chevron plot; transition-state movements; Hammond behaviour; topology; electrostatic interactions; pH dependence; mass-action; protein engineering; pKa; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are among the most complex molecules in the cell and they play a major role in life itself. The complexity is not restricted to just structure and function, but also embraces the protein folding reaction. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Rational and Combinatorial Engineering of Affinity Proteins Towards Therapeutical Applications

    Författare :Johan Seijsing; Torbjörn Gräslund; Uhlén Mathias; Inger Sandlie; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neonatal Fc receptor; FcRn; affibody molecule; immunoglobulin G IgG ; serum albumin SA ; albumin binding domain ABD ; half-life extension; blocking; autoimmune disease; pH-dependence; GAD67; GAD-1; gene therapy; Parkinson’s disease; zinc finger based artificial transcription factor; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Protein engineering has had an immense impact on the development of biological drugs, including replacement therapies with engineered versions of insulin or factor VIII to treat diabetes or bleeding disorders, and monoclonal antibodies to treat cancer and various other malignancies. Now, with the next generation of treatment modalities coming up, including monoclonal reagents based on alternative scaffolds, gene and cell therapies, the importance of protein engineering to tailor-make these treatments is likely to increase further. 5. 20. Refined in vitro Models for Prediction of Intestinal Drug Transport : Role of pH and Extracellular Additives in the Caco-2 Cell Model

    Författare :Sibylle Neuhoff; Per Artursson; Anna-Lena Ungell; Patrick Augustijns; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; Caco-2 cells; membrane permeability; drug permeation; drug efflux ratios; drug uptake ratios; Cremophor EL; bovine serum albumin; pH-dependent permeability; drug transport; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Sammanfattning : Drug transport across the intestinal epithelium is roughly predicted from permeability values obtained from Caco-2 cell monolayers. This thesis examines the important role of pH and extracellular additives for increasing the reliability and predictivity of the in vitro screening system, Caco-2. LÄS MER
