  1. 11. Exhaled Nitric Oxide in epidemiological and experimental studies

    Författare :Anna-Carin Olin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Nitric oxide; exhaled air; nasal nitric oxide; ozone; pulp-mill; gassings; nitrate; ; atopy; sensitization; asthma; rhinitis; bronchiolitis;

    Sammanfattning : The overall purpose with this thesis has been to contribute to the assessment of theutility of exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) in epidemiological studies. The specific aims have been toinvestigate whether eNO increases after occupational exposure to high peaks of ozone, or afterexperimental exposure to ozone in ambient concentrations. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Nitric oxide production by the intestinal mucosa during hypoperfusion

    Författare :Johan Snygg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; intestinal epithelium; hemorrhagic shock; cardiac tamponade; septic shock; lower body negative pressure; splanchnic circulation; substrate; laser Doppler;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is based on the concept that gastrointestinal blood hypoperfusion is a common phenomenon associated with critical illness. Furthermore, the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is proposed to be initiated by gastrointestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction, allowing intestinal luminal contents to penetrate into the tissue and activate a systemic inflammatory response. 3. 13. Inducible nitric oxide synthase in experimental urinary tract infection

    Författare :Mirjana Poljakovic; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urology; host defense; cell viability; nitrate; lipopolysaccaride; cytokines; sphingomyelinase; mitogen activator protein kinase; nitric oxide; nitrotyrosine; E. coli; cyclooxygenase; urinary tract infection; prostaglandins; urothelium; bladder; kidney; NADPH diaphorase histochemistry; nitric oxide synthase; vävnadskultur; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; nefrologi; Urologi; nephrology; Infections; Infektioner;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infection (UTI) is among the most common bacterial infections in humans and the majority are caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Abundant evidence indicates that nitric oxide (NO) produced by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS) plays an important role in host defense against infection. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Carbon monoxide and nitric oxide as antimicrobial agents : focus on ESBL-producing uropathogenic E.coli

    Författare :Charlotte Sahlberg Bang; Katarina Persson; Bo Söderquist; Annelie Brauner; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biofilm; carbon monoxide; CORM-2; DETA NO; extendedspectrum beta-lactamases; nitric oxide; urinary tract infection; uropathogenic Escherichia coli; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are common in humans and most often caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli). Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. coli are increasing worldwide and they are frequently multidrug-resistant with limited treatment options. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Synchronized delivery of inspired nitric oxide : Effects on oxygenation and pulmonary tension during artificial ventilation

    Författare :Erkki Heinonen; Tim Higenbottam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; nitric oxide; pulsed administration; pulmonary hypertension; oxygenation; equine; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is a mediator of vascular smooth muscle tension that metabolises rapidly in blood. NO delivered by inhalation can therefore be used as a selective pulmonary vasodilator to relieve pulmonary hypertension or to improve oxygenation with no systemic effects. LÄS MER
