26. Perinatal nicotine exposure. Effects on the defense against hypoxia in lambs
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether perinatal nicotine exposure could impair cardiorespiratory defense mechanisms to hypoxia. The rationale for this approach is that exposure to tobacco smoke, particularly before birth, is a risk factor for the sudden infant death syndrome as well as for obstructive airway disease in childhood. 27. Prenatal nicotine exposure and effects on the health of the newborn
Sammanfattning : Maternal smoking is one of the most important preventable risk factors in pregnancy. Whether it is nicotine or combustion products, or possibly both, that cause the adverse effects is not clear. The common substance in snuff and cigarette smoke is nicotine. LÄS MER
28. Effects of nicotine on mesolimbocortical dopaminergic neurotransmission : a pharmacological study in the rat
Sammanfattning : Tobacco-smoking represents a form of drug addiction to nicotine (NlC) and the reinforcing and dependence-producing properties of NIC depend largely on central dopamine (DA) neurons, located in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and projecting mainly to the nucleus accumbens (NAc; mesolimbic DA system) and the medial prefrontal cortex (PFC; mesocortical DA system). Generally, the mesolimbic DA system plays a pivotal role in the reinforcing effects of natural rewards as well as of drugs of abuse. LÄS MER
29. Neonatal Exposure to Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation in Mice : Developmental Neurotoxic Effects of Single and Fractionated Doses and Interaction with Nicotine
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to investigate the developmental neurotoxic effects of low-dose exposure to ionizing radiation, alone or together with nicotine, during a defined critical period of neonatal brain development in mice. Investigation of neurotoxic effects following fractionated or acute low-dose radiation, resembling the clinical situation during repeated CT scans or radiation delivered to non-target tissue during radiotherapy, and possible interaction effects with other agents, is of great importance for risk and safety evaluation. 30. Pamoplantar Pustulosis. Pathogenetic Studies with Special Reference to the Role of Nicotine
Sammanfattning : Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a chronic disease of unknown pathogenesis. Most of the patients were smokers. High prevalence of a number of autoimmune diseases was observed among the patients (thyroid disease 14%, gluten intolerance 8%, diabetes type 1 3%). Eosinophils and neutrophils were found in large numbers in the pustules. LÄS MER
