21. Skeletal muscle fiber types in man : With special reference to anabolic signaling and mitochondrial bioenergetics
Sammanfattning : Human skeletal muscle consists of a mixture of slow-twitch (type I) and fast-twitch (type II) fibers. The type I fibers are endurance-oriented, with a metabolic system and infrastructure that supports aerobic metabolism. LÄS MER
22. Production Ergonomics: Identifying and managing risk in the design of high performance work systems
Sammanfattning : Poor ergonomics in production systems can compromise performance and cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which pose a huge cost to society, companies, and afflicted individuals. This thesis presents a research trajectory through the problem space by: 1) Identifying and quantifying workplace risk factors for MSDs, 2) Identifying how these risks may relate to production strategies, and 3) Developing an approach to integrating ergonomics into a companies’ regular development work. 23. The dynamic microfilament system : cellular organization of actin and profilin and their association with cell signalling
Sammanfattning : Active shape changes and movement of whole cells, and translocations within cells are essential to life. For instance, during embryogenesis cell migration is a central theme. Wound healing depends on increased and directed motile activity of several cell types. LÄS MER
24. Elements in regulation of the microfilament system
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with cell motility. The process of rapid actin polymerization in the lamellipodium of a migrating cell is responsible for its protrusion. Studies have been made on some of the elements behind this event and special interest has been focused on the protein tropomyosin. LÄS MER
25. Regulation of the vascular smooth muscle cell phenotype
Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMC) are present in many internal organs such as the blood vessels and the gastrointestinal channel. Their main functions are to provide stability to the tissue and to provide contractile capability. SMC are not terminally differentiated but can switch between several phenotypes, which is also known as phenotypic modulation. LÄS MER
