16. Inflammation, platelet aggregation and prognosis in acute myocardial infarction
Sammanfattning : The incidence of stroke and re-infarction is noticeably high in the first few days following acute myocardial infarction. This finding has raised questions whether the systemic inflammatory reaction secondary to myocardial necrosis is involved. LÄS MER
17. Cardiovascular Risk Genes in Prevention and Treatment Response
Sammanfattning : GENERAL AIM: To investigate how common single-nucleotide-polymorphisms (SNPs) that associate with cardiovascular disease (CVD) could be used in prevention and treatment of CVD. SUBJECTS: Subjects from the population-based Malmö-Diet-and-Cancer-(MDC)-Study (n=30447) and hypertensives from the Nordic-Diltiazem-(NORDIL)-Study (n=10881). LÄS MER
18. Psychological distress in coronary heart disease : Risk indicators, treatment and cardiovascular prognosis
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to: (1) explore factors associated with emotional distress; (2) investigate psychosocial stress as a risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) morbidity in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD); (3) investigate the impact of group-based stress management on psychological outcomes, and if that mediates risk of CV events; and (4) evaluate an internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) for emotional distress in patients with a recent myocardial infarction (MI).In Study I, data from the national registry SWEDEHEART on 27,267 MI patients < 75 years was used. 19. Stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation
Sammanfattning : Background: The Framingham Study from 1991 showed a clear correlation between atrial fibrillation (AF) and ischemic stroke, where patients with AF had an almost fivefold increase in risk of stroke compared with patients without AF. Since then, several trials have evaluated different antithrombotic treatments to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with AF. LÄS MER
20. Acute Pulmonary Embolism : not just an acute condition after all
Sammanfattning : Background: Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease following myocardial infarction and stroke. Despite diagnostic improvements, the diagnosis of PE is still associated with many difficulties, as the symptoms of an acute PE are nonspecific. LÄS MER
