16. Behind the Screen : -Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to Treat Depressive Symptoms in Persons with Heart Failure
Sammanfattning : IntroductionThe prevalence of depressive symptoms in persons with heart failure is higher than in age- and gender-matched populations not suffering from heart failure. Heart failure in itself is associated with an unpredictable trajectory of symptoms, a poor prognosis, high mortality and morbidity, and low health-related quality of life (HrQoL). LÄS MER
17. The efficacy of bacterial viruses against multi-resistant Escherichia coli: from isolation to pharmacology
Sammanfattning : The increase of multi-resistant bacteria highlights that the golden era of antibiotics is ending and that alternative treatmentsare urgently needed. Phages have been historically used to treat bacterial infections prior to the discovery of antibiotics and have gained renewed interest in the past decade. LÄS MER
18. Developing and evaluating dose calculation models for verification of advanced radiotherapy
Sammanfattning : A prerequisite for modern radiotherapy is the ability to accurately determine the absorbed dose (D) that is given to the patient. The subject of this thesis has been to develop and evaluate efficient dose calculation models for high-energy photon beams delivered by linear accelerators. LÄS MER
19. MRI evaluation and image processing in gel dosimetry. A study of selected MRI properties and image processing in 3D gel dosimetry
Sammanfattning : Gel dosimetry is a new dosimetry method applied in radiation therapy. Gel dosimeters consist of a radiation sensitive gel, which can integrate absorbed doses from several radiation sources or beams. The dose to the gel can be evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a procedure that is the focus of the present thesis. LÄS MER
20. Improving surgical therapy for oesophageal cancer
Sammanfattning : Despite advances in multimodality treatment, surgery remains the mainstay of curative treatment for oesophageal cancer. However short- and long-term mortality from oesophagectomy for oesophageal cancer still shows large variations nationally and internationally. This thesis addresses three themes concerning oesophageal cancer surgery. LÄS MER
