1. Thiamin (vitamin B1) in the aquatic food web
Sammanfattning : Thiamin (vitamin B1) is required for several life-sustaining processes in most organisms and cells, e.g. in the conversion of food to energy. It also serves as an antioxidant and is important for proper nerve signaling. LÄS MER
2. MRI evaluation and image processing in gel dosimetry. A study of selected MRI properties and image processing in 3D gel dosimetry
Sammanfattning : Gel dosimetry is a new dosimetry method applied in radiation therapy. Gel dosimeters consist of a radiation sensitive gel, which can integrate absorbed doses from several radiation sources or beams. The dose to the gel can be evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a procedure that is the focus of the present thesis. LÄS MER
3. Three-dimensional T1 quantification techniques for assessment of cartilage quality using dGEMRIC
Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common chronic disease and one of the major global causes for functional disabilities. The disease is characterized by loss and degradation of cartilage, commonly affecting the knees and hips. LÄS MER
4. Dynamics of astaxanthin, tocopherol (Vitamin E) and thiamine (Vitamin B1) in the Baltic Sea ecosystem : Bottom-up effects in an aquatic food web
Sammanfattning : The thesis combines laboratory experiments and field expeditions to study production, transfer and consumption of non-enzymatic antioxidants and thiamine in an aquatic food web. In particular, I (1) documented spatial and seasonal variation of tocopherols and carotenoids in the Baltic Sea pelagic food web, and (2) examined the effects of abiotic and biotic factors on tocopherol, carotenoid and thiamine concentrations in phytoplankton, zooplankton and fish. 5. Nitrogen use efficiency and related functional traits in wheat : influence of genotype and environment
Sammanfattning : Efficient use of nitrogen (N) is essential to decrease negative impacts of agriculture on the environment. This thesis evaluated the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of various wheat varieties, identified traits associated with high NUE and investigated the gene NAM-B1 in relation to some of these traits.
