31. Prostaglandin E synthases in periodontitis-affected gingival tissue and in gingival fibroblasts
Sammanfattning : Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease resulting in the destruction of the tissue and alveolar bone supporting the teeth and leading ultimately to tooth loss. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is an important inflammatory mediator in the pathogenesis of periodontitis. LÄS MER
32. Regulation of signal transduction in the striatum by typical and atypical antipsychotic drugs
Sammanfattning : The only effective therapy for schizophrenia is based on the use of antipsychotic drugs. These substances act as dopamine D 2 receptor antagonists and can be classified as typical or atypical. Typical antipsychotics, e.g. LÄS MER
33. Effect of hyperglycemia on glucose transport and intracellular signal transduction in skeletal muscle
Sammanfattning : Recent studies revealing the components of insulin signal transduction have raised the question of whether the defects in insulin signaling account for disturbed glucose metabolism in people with NIDDM. The major focus of this thesis is to elucidate the role of insulin signal transduction in the development of peripheral insulin resistance. LÄS MER
34. On Microvascular Inflammation and Intestinal Leakage in Radiation Enteropathy
Sammanfattning : Gastrointestinal tract damage is an insidious feature in patients undergoing radiotherapy. Microvascular inflammation, including leukocyte and platelet recruitment as well as epithelial barrier dysfunction, are considered to constitute key components in the pathophysiology of radiation-induced enteropathy. 35. Specific signaling through heteromeric PDGF receptor complexes
Sammanfattning : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant for mesenchymal cells and exert its effect by binding to two structurally related receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted α- and β-receptors. PDGF binding induces dimerization of its receptors, both homo-and heterodimerization, leading to their autophosphorylation on tyrosine residues and binding of downstream signaling molecules. LÄS MER
