  1. 11. Molecular Mechanisms of Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration

    Författare :Lena Skoglund; Anna Glaser; Martin Ingelsson; Lars Lannfelt; Stuart Pickering-Brown; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Frontotemporal lobar degeneration; Frontotemporal dementia; Tau; Progranulin; Alternative splicing; Nonsense-mediated decay; Haploinsufficiency;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to identify genetic factors involved in frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), a neurodegenerative disorder clinically characterised by a progressive change in personality, behaviour and language. FTLD is a genetically complex disorder and a positive family history is found in up to 40% of the cases. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Studies of myc gene expression and a novel endoribonuclease activity

    Författare :Anders Wennborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :c-myc; B-myc; heat-shock; mRNA degradation; endoribonucleases; AUUUAmotifs; RNase E.;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this work was to study the regulation of cellular oncogene expression, with emphasis on the c-myc gene, which is de-regulated in several human and animal tumors. The steady-state expression level of c-myc mRNA or protein was analyzed in panels of human Blymphoid cell lines with different growth and transformation properties, and the general observation was a co-variation between high c-myc expression and a more malignant phenotype of the cell lines. 3. 13. Studies on endoribonuclease RNase E and its role in RNA turnover

    Författare :Björn Sohlberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Gene regulation RNA processing mRNA stability endoribonucleases RNase E AUUUA-motifs Archaea;

    Sammanfattning : RNA turnover is an important level of regulation of gene expression, by which a cell can rapidly adjust to changes in its environment. The turnover of RNA is done by an efficient but not well understood mechanism. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Structure, function and metabolic stability of antisense RNAs

    Författare :Fredrik Söderbom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Antisense RNAs usually are small, highly structured, unstable RNAs that control a varietyof different biological processes. They exert their effect by binding to complementarytarget RNAs and thereby inhibit their functions. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Poly(A)-Specific Ribonuclease (PARN)

    Författare :Yan-Guo Ren; Eric Westhof; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Poly A -specific ribonuclease; PARN; deadenylation; processive; oligomeric; cap interacting; aminoglycoside; active site; FE2 -mediated cleavage; metal ion switch; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Degradation of the mRNA 3'-end located poly(A) tail is an important step for mRNA decay in mammalian cells. Thus, to understand mRNA decay in detail, it is important to identify the catalytic activities involved in degrading poly(A). LÄS MER
