16. Regulatory roles of sRNAs in pathogenesis of Vibrio cholerae
Sammanfattning : The Gram-negative pathogen Vibrio cholerae uses variety of regulatory molecules to modulate expression of virulence factors. One important regulatory element of microorganisms is small non-coding RNAs (sRNAs), which control various cell functions such as expression of cell membrane proteins, mRNA decay and riboswitches. 17. Genetics in dementia : impact of sequence variations for families and populations
Sammanfattning : Even though the human genome sequences are remarkably similar, there is room for genetic variability that makes every human unique. The most common form of sequence variation in the genome is an exchange of a single nucleotide. LÄS MER
18. Biogenesis of messenger and ribosomal RNPs in the eukaryotic cell
Sammanfattning : In eukaryotic cells, gene expression involves multi-step processes in the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The different processes engage specific RNA-protein complexes, RNPs. Upon activation of most, if not all genes, a precursor RNA molecule is synthesized that has to be extensively processed and modified. LÄS MER
19. Regulation of MYC transcription in 3D : implications for tumor development
Sammanfattning : This thesis uncovers how chromatin organization conspires with nuclear architecture and environmental stimuli in order to regulate gene expression in disease and particular, in cancer. In Paper I, we have unraveled a mechanism of oncogenesis, previously unknown in humans, and widely known as gene gating. LÄS MER
20. Beyond transcription : a post-transcriptional role of 3D chromatin crosstalk in oncogene regulation
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores how stochastic chromatin fibre interactions, chromatin organization in the 3D nuclear architecture, and environmental signals collaborate to regulate MYC oncogene expression in human colon cancer cells. In Paper I, we employ the ultra-sensitive Nodewalk technique to uncover the dynamic and stochastic nature of chromatin networks impinging on MYC. LÄS MER
